Slowly…..as if a heavy fog had been lifted, Sarah feels life return. How long had she been from her love ones? Feeling her body being lifted gently she opens her eyes and looks up into the green misty colored eyes of a stranger.

“Where am I?” Gripping the arm of the green-eyed elf Sarah lifts herself higher, bringing herself near to his left ear. “Send for my husband, I need him…I am Sarah O’Ryan, Sultana of Nujel’m. I need to speak to him now.”

Placing her back down on the fresh linen the man gently covers her sickly-thinned body with the compassion of a great healer. “I know who you are madam; I have cared for you since you were brought to our monastery. I have heard you call out for Ameer Najm and Lord Rufus many times during your stay. But Najm has gone for more study since we did not know when you were to awaken. We expect his return will be in a few days. By that time you will be stronger and better to meet him. He is after all your young son, we do not want to frighten him any more than he has to be. And your condition is not strong enough for him to see…in a short time you will be able to, I give you my word, my queen,” Athrun softly says to his patient. Being the high elf and principally in charge of the Sultana’s health had burdened him with layers of stress. Looking down at his queen and seeing her recovery did release some but not his entire burden.

Nodding up at the elf Sarah resigns herself to the fact that she is powerless to do anything but wait. Gripping the strong arm once more she whispers up to him “Rufus..where is my husband?”

What was she seeing in his eyes…a flicker of uncertainty? Digging her fingers into his flesh she stares into the misty eyes. “Tell me why you hesitated. Is..is he alright? He must be!”

The burden of knowledge that Athrun holds as to the whereabouts of Lord Rufus could destroy the Empire that he dearly loved. Tenderly pulling her grip off his arm he tries to soothe her worries. “Lord Rufus is very well madam, in fact he is quite well actually just not here.” Knowing where the Sultan was brought on tremendous stress upon his shoulders. Knowing that he must hide his feelings he tells her again that word will be sent to her husband for his return and that both son and mate are safe. Feeling her relax he instructs the attending maidens to secrecy, to follow his wishes for treatment and to alert him if the Sultan contacts the monastery or his wife.

Returning to Lady Sarah’s bedside, Athrun takes her pulse as he scans her for any worrisome signs. Seeing her for the first time as a woman he is dismayed at the victimization of her by those that loved her once. Unable to see the possible future she could have Athrun shakes off the feeling of dread and swiftly leaves the chamber, fearful of revealing his emotions.

Feeling the hand leave her wrist Sarah feels his movements take him from the room. Stretching out upon the bed her mind darts from one matter to another but firmly and ever so often returns upon the markings upon her husband's face. Shivering as if a northern breeze had blown across her she becomes puzzled to the meaning of them and why after all this...her mind would fixate upon them. Was it his face with the markings she was remembering or the markings themselves? Like a creeping vine in the forest, her peace slowly erodes with trouble thoughts. Unanswered questions and visions of troublesome scenarios of what could have made him leave crept up into her thoughts. Then the healer's look when she demanded to know where Rufus was….it was most odd. Shifting in bed she calls the closest maiden for more powder drink to aid her in finding sleep. Sipping the cool liquid, letting it slide down her throat she can instantly feel its euphoric effect that had been so familiar in the past. Perhaps Isk could help...laughing to herself she smiles at the thought of Isk before darkness embraces her.
