Rufus returned to the Palace in Nujel'm after a long night. Frustration visible on his brow. The few persons he met in the halls moved from his path as he walked slowly in the dark corridor; almost as if they could feel his tension. As he passed the bedchamber, the door was slightly cracked. His recovering wife, lay motionless, no doubt wrapped in a dream of some sort. For whatever reason, even in the still of night, The palace seemed far too noisy to think clearly... Rufus slowly closed the door completely, and muttered several words, putting him at the steps of his estate.
Rufus brushed by the hallways filled with Bookcases, and stepped gracefully over the books scattered over parts of the floor. He stopped and peered into what had been made into a library, or teaching area, only to pass it, to make his way up the stairs. The few candles that lit the stairway, flickered, jumping as Rufus's mind bounded about the walls where the shadows danced. Finally, he had reached the dinning hall, and adjacent to that, his small office. A place where no one would bother him. He slumped in the stone chair, tapping his finger against the table, recalling bits of his Conversation with one Vaen Swiftar...
"...So where do the two facets stand...?"
"I do wish to see the two united...but nay under one banner...This could all be a dream though..."
The words were so unsettling.
"You will always have a home here..."
"I know weather to say Thank you or Nay.... Im sure you understand..."
In honesty, it was a cold air about the conversation. A small invisible barrier between the two. Friends, amidst the same cause most oft, but still the hint of conflict...
"Vaen, I admire your strength, as well as the loyalty of your companions...I pray nothing rises between us..."
"Rufus, of everyone one I have ever known...I would think you to be the last being I'd go against..."
"But I must do...what I must do..."
"...As Will I..."
Perhaps the conversation was premature...a thing that shant have happened. But it all seemed to fall into place, Vaen rounded a corner, just as Rufus had...And they stood there, neutral, but with a common bond between the two. It was almost impossible to imagine. Unfathomable. And in that still of night, where Rufus sat in his office, he thought aloud as he picked up a pen and a piece of parchment...
"I suppose I owe several missives." He let out a loud sigh, "Seems that in all my preaching, and talks of balance, an obstacle has finally fell in my path..."
Rufus scribbled during the night. And thoughts of the events that passed during this day had filled his head, there was much to come. _________________ "Balance - the harmony between the Principles of Order and Chaos...Harmony, Dedication and Rationality, the three Principles of Balance, are our highest ideals." |
