All members of the Wilmeth Guard are ordered to assist in the creation of the barriers. One such barrier shuts out the Wilmeth Valley from Britain. As a result, I appoint the Wilmeth Valley near Despise as a first defense against whatever is to come.
I command all guards under me to assist in the construction. This includes all three divisions (soldiers, knights, and scouts).
Walk into the valley right next to Rowen's home and the barrier resources are kept at the other end. Bring logs and iron ore to this pile. Any person caught stealing from this pile endangers the entire city of Britain and will be punished severely. |
Steel dropped the old, crumpled parchment on the ground, failing to harden the look of sadness on his face. He had foolishly appointed his town the vanguard against the invasion of Despise. His decision had cost people their lives. Though Britain was won, other towns had suffered far worse consequences.
The Town of Wilmeth was no more. Torn out by its roots, the remnants of the already dying town were collapsed and burned as the armies of Despise marched over them without hesitation.
Even through the invasion, no word from the town's mayor, Rowen Starspan, was received by anyone. Most feared for the worst. The rest probably knew he was already dead. Despite his best efforts, the town had once again fallen under. Another period of depression would pass, until someone else took up the position and tried to pick the town up. Though many people viewed the new Wilmeth as a failed attempt to bring back a great city, most admired the absolute lack of desolation of the people who were made famous for not giving up the attempts.
Steel took off his helmet and muttered a quick prayer for the people who lost their lives in the battle. He then removed the badge of the Navy from his sash. He would start again, with a new form of guard in the memory of the lost city of Wilmeth.
The Vanguard was born. _________________ |
