Approaching the City seemed more like a bad dream than reality. There were no children playing in the street, no proud warriors on patrol, there was no music coming from the Hostel. Even Blackguard seemed to have a shadow of despair hovering over it.
Zarlox kept the hood of his cloak pulled up as he crept through the streets of Sanctus, observing what had become of his beloved home.
“Easy boy” he said as Valor flinched at a shadowy figure that appeared in a doorway for a moment.
Cautiously he made his way through the City and decided to head to the tavern.
“Sadira will be able to fill me in.” he thought to himself. His heart fluttered for a moment at the thought of her. After all of this time, he would finally be able to hold her again.
As he closed in on the tavern an elderly woman was turning the corning near him.
“Good day milady” he said in a pleasant manner. The woman scurried away from him, making and effort not to look in his direction. With a sigh he continued on.
Passing a blacksmith shop on his way to the tavern a flier stuck to the door caught his attention. There were always fliers at Blackguard and taverns, he thought to himself, but a blacksmiths? As he began reading the flier his eyes tightened considering what he had just read. Who was BM? Then there were the black dots, those were not part of the crest of Sanctus. Ripping the flier off the door he quickly made towards the tavern.
He flung the door open and stalked into the tavern. After scanning the near empty room for a moment his gaze came to rest on a serving woman behind the bar. “Henrietta!” he said in a controlled tone. “Where is Sadira?” Standing, she began
“Good sir, the Lady Sad..” The woman froze for a moment as he pushed back the hood covering his face. “Lo..Lord Zarlox” she said in an exasperated tone. “you’re alive!”
Nodding once he repeated, “Where is Sadira?”
Darting her eyes around the room “Come Milord, we must be careful of where we speak.” As she began to lead him to a back room she continued. “And there is much to speak of.” |
