A courier-delivered note for Molly arrives at the Royal Court of Light:
Lady Molly,
While I do appreciate your generous offer to speak to the Royal Court which you oversee, I must be on my guard against those whom I know seek my life, and I therefore decline your kind offer. As you know, revealing truth disturbs many who are otherwise happily and willfully deluded. These are mainly aristocrats who cannot brook anyone to speak against them, their policies, or point out their frightful and glaring inconsistencies. They carelessly deny rights to others that they themselves enjoy to the full, the main being freedom of speech. Well, I digress, but the point is made: for safety's sake, the meeting I wish to hold must be at a time and place of my choosing.
As you mentioned that the orcs have committed acts of agression and sabotage against the Royal Court, I will comment on it. While such actions are not justified by law, it is clear they are the outgrowth from the widespread oppression to which humans, and elves, have subjected them for many years. I myself have arbitrarily slain many an orc in the wild, simply because I believed it would try to kill me if I didn't kill it first. I then learned that orcs, the more intelligent ones, felt the same way of me. So there exists a great misunderstanding between the races that possibly could be healed with time, understanding, and compromise. It is my wish to pursue this course of healing between human and orc. And for that, I am considered by many to be an insurrectionist and opportunist. Closed minds and hardened hearts are the most difficult barriers to peace that exist, and, sad as it may be, force may be necessary at times to break through them. I sincerely hope and pray it will not come to that.
I would gladly discuss more of this with you at an opportune time and place. Your sense of openness and honest assessment is most refreshing.
Warm Regards,
Lord Thrax
A letter arrives for Lady Sarah of Nujel'm:
Lady Sarah,
I have visited the lovely isle of Nujel'm many times and they are among my most enjoyable experiences. If the tranquility and social equity that pervades the island is the result of your handiwork and goverment, then I am truly impressed with your business acumen and even-handedness.
M'Lady, you need not worry that any of what I seek to do will effect Nujel'm. The orcs have only an interest in what was once theirs, and that is but a small portion of Yew, Felucca. Yet if it is your wish to help me help us all turn a corner in our relationship with the orcs, your influence and voice added to mine would be most helpful.
In any event, I pray that your oversight of that fair isle will continue for years to come. Nothing but good can come of it.
Warm Regards,
Lord Thrax |
