Traveling alone to a place that he liked to rest at occasionally, Alex got off his horse and took a seat on a rickety bench. He had been thinking constantly about one thing. The thought would not leave his head and it always came back to him no matter what situation he was in. Unlike before, he could describe it a little better in actual words now.

It still didn't seem to make much sense, but it was gradually coming along. Trying to think it out more, Alex mouthed some words quietly. "Why do humans lie?", were the silent words. He had been thinking, and he could not figure it out.

It seemed to him that no other races lied like humans did. Orcs would tell you directly if they liked you or not. Drow were relatively sneaky about things, but you almost always knew what they thought of you. Elves did not lie, it was not one of the things they did. Humans, on the other hand, might say they are your best friend at one moment, only to stab you in the back at the next. It was very perplexing.

Alex knew that not all humans were like this. Nor were all orcs, drow, elves, or whatever other race you could think of. So many humans seemed to fit the deceitful mold, though. He had asked around about this and gotten a few possible answers to the question.

One answer was that humans did not have ties to anything natural, so they sought to destroy nature and make their own things to have ties with. They did this by any means necessary. Alex thought this made sense. Orcs had their blood god and he was pretty sure that the blood god was involved with something natural. Drow had the underdark, and although it didn't seem very pleasant, caves seemed rather natural. Elves had the forests, which were quite natural. Humans just seemed to tear down all these things to make their own things. It did make sense.

Another person had told him that it was because of the longevity of humans. Humans were much more mortal than elves or drow, and possibly orcs. Alex had no clue about orcs as he really had never been highly involved with them. The person telling him this said that the shorter the lifespan of the race, the more violent and destructive they seemed to be. The words and actions of humans seemed to validate this. Something he wasn't sure of was orcs. It was said that orcs were destructive because of this reason as well. Orcs did seem somewhat destructive about some things, but they definitely did not go about their destruction using words as well. Perhaps orcs lived a little longer than humans, but not enough to make them void of all the bad tendencies. This would need more looking into.

Thinking through all these things, Alex still wasn't sure exactly what he was trying to figure out. It surely was important though. He decided that he would sit on his bench for a little while to see if things made more sense. The sun was quietly setting and a pleasant purple hue began to fill the sky. Thoughts wandered through Alex's head like a small deer in a field of grass. Hopefully it would all come to him sooner or later.
