Sorrel took his duty very seriously, and his duty was to watch over the Lady Molly. So, where she went, he went. So, at the last few meetings of the Royal Court of Light, he had sat patiently, as only squirrels can, in the tree outside the building.

This last time, however, he could not resist, and had hidden in Molly's pocket. He knew that she knew he was there. He was relieved she didn't mind.

After all, I am her Champion!

Puffing up his chest proudly, he tried to listen to the people talking heatedly. There was Lady Maelwyn and Lord Tavish, the druids. Smiling to himself, he almost missed what the Elven One was saying.

This elf named Evoroth, he was speaking of the Ebon Skulls. He was speaking of bad things. But, even the squirrel could not deny it. His relatives had been reporting to him of the goings-on in those far off "places.

Now, as the small general sat in the garden inside Lady Molly's home, he contemplated many things.

"Chichchitcha chick chtch ch!"

A squirrel ran in at his command.

"Take message to the Lady Maelwyn. Many cities have much trouble!"

More chittering, then the scout was off to complete the task.

"Chichchitchas chtch ch Chit!!"

Within 5 minutes 20 Squirrels were lined up in front of him. They stood as tall as squirrels can stand, tails held rigid and straight, arms down at sides.

Sorrel deployed them to various cities and outposts. All the cities of Trammel, Malas, Tokuno, and Ilshenar.

Worry drooped his whiskers, as he thought of the sorrow to come in the future. He wondered if his young squirrels would grow up at all, or would they become victims of a war. So much at stake in this, not just cities that are held. The Skulls were like a plague, infecting the woods about them. Their evil had been somewhat contained in Caina, where none could bear witness to the damage that their power would do to plants. Now that they had taken residence in towns with lush plantlife and animals, their true power would be seen by all. It would begin to resemble Umbra.

Sighing, Sorrel curled up in a ball to rest, for the first time in days.
