Mallory sighed as she returned to the Hunter's Lodge. She had been renting a room from Maggy and after a day of hard training she was ready for a long bath and a good night's rest. As she entered she noticed Vaen and Brianha at one of the tables. She put her head down and moved towards the stairs as quickly and quietly as possible with the hopes of not being noticed. She was too tired to be polite tonight. It wasn't that she didn't like the girl, in fact she felt that she was a very nice person and under other circumstances perhaps she could even call her a friend. It had only been a few days ago when Vaen had told her that he and Brianha were to be married.

It seemed like only a short time since they had been together and the news came as a bit of a shock and she tried her best to maintain her composure. She congratulated him and excused herself to her studies. The entire time while she was sparring in Jhelom she thought about the newest develoments. It was apparant that her mind was not on her studies and she excused herself to her thinking spot. Why did it bother her so much that he had found someone that made him happy. Shouldn't she be happy for her friend? She knew that she loved him only as a friend, but how would this woman feel about him having a woman friend. Once they were married she knew that it would mean that she would once again be alone. She couldn't answer these questions and so she made her way back to Maggy's.

As she readied herself for bed she couldn't help but think more on the situation. Would she forever be destined to walk these paths alone? She had found friends amongst those within the Legion and she was glad that Vaen had offered her a place there. She had furthered her studies in the divine magics and the arts of healing and become very adept with the sword, but had the price of knowledge cost her the possibility of true happiness? She sighed and knew that only time would tell where her place would be.
