Alessandra had returned home earlier that evening after spending the past few evenings in Nujel’m, working on various projects for the city. She found if she kept herself busy that she would not allow herself to think about Drayden or her heartache. It was time to return however, and face things head on. When she arrived she first checked her mailbox, hoping there was something there from Drayden. She pulled from the box a single letter and seeing it from Claudette she placed it in her pocket and decided she would look at it after she had herself some supper. She had hoped to have something from Drayden, but unfortunately there was nothing.

She made her way to the kitchen and rummaged about until she found some cheese and fruit. She carefully placed the simple meal on a plate and carried it up to her garden area. She enjoyed the evening as the sun set and the noises of the night began. Soon fall would be upon them and she would not be able to enjoy these evenings. She sighed softly wondering if Drayden was enjoying his new home. Surely the view over the ocean at this time of the day… Alessandra sighed softly and shook her head. She finished her meal and took the letter out of her pocket. Uncertain she wanted to know what this woman thought of her, she slowly opened the letter. She unfolded the letter and began reading.

This woman, Claudette, was such a kind soul that Alessandra couldn’t possibly remain upset with her. After all it was not her fault that Drayden had not told her about their previous history or that he decided to share his bed with her. It was more that than anything else that bothered Alessandra. She had not shared her bed with another man, even when she had accepted Evoroth’s proposal, there had been something that kept her from sharing her bed with him. Perhaps she was being too difficult, after all, didn’t the woman say it was just the bed they had shared and nothing else? Still, there was a time Alessandra had been asked to share the bed with another and she had declined, knowing that both his honor and hers was on the line, and she wanted neither to be tarnished. Alessandra finished reading the letter and she sighed to herself. She folded the letter and placed it back in her pocket and made her way to her study to write a reply to Claudette. In her study she took a fresh piece of parchment and elegantly wrote…

Lady Claudette,

Let me begin this letter by commending you for your bravery in being the first to contact me. I know it must not have been an easy thing for you to do, and your kindness and compassion is evident in your writing. I truly believe that you did not have any knowledge of the history that Drayden and I have shared in the past, and while that fact alone bothers me, I am beginning to understand the many sides to this. If I had known of his involvement with you, I certainly would not have pursued the relationship that we once had. It was unfair of me to assume that I still held his affections after so much time, but I owed it to my heart to at least know. I do hope that you will forgive me if I had any part in your pain. It was never my intent.
I do not know what you and Drayden shared, for it is something he has not disclosed to me, and to be quite honest it is not something I think I need or want to know. I already know that you are a part of his heart and that he cares for you very deeply. I also wish him happiness, and whether that is with you or I that is his decision. I will not make it for him. I do also wish you happiness and I pray that the Virtues will guide you and lead you to true happiness.

Sincerely,
Alessandra

She sealed the letter and addressed it and sent it with the messenger to Vesper to find Lady Claudette. After such a long week Alessandra made her way to her room and readied herself for bed, as a summer storm began blowing in. She blew out the candle and lay listening to the rain and thunder until sleep overtook her. It was not long until suddenly Alessandra woke with her eyes wide and her heart racing. She pulled the covers closer as she tried to make sense of what woke her. It was still storming outside, with a vengeance. Suddenly a shrill scream pierced the night and sent chills down Alessandra’s spine and made her blood go cold. She had not heard that sound since before Dialmon disappeared and Drayden left to go find him. Alessandra pinched herself to make sure she was not in one of her nightmares, and was painfully reminded she was awake. As the storm began to die out, Alessandra began to wonder if it had not been only the wind and her imagination. As she was drifting back to sleep she couldn’t help but think she was hearing a strange giggle, like a child, right outside her bedroom door…
