Evoroth opened his eyes and looked straight ahead, staring at the ceiling of a dank and moist room. He didnt know how he came to be laying on his back and was equally confused as to where he was. He sat straight up and looked around, trying to regognize his surroundings. Then in his mind he recalled a memory of going through a portal atop his roof of his tower and that was the last memory he had. With that thought he stood up and looked around closer and began to idnetify items in the room as being his own. He was in his own house but his study was very unorganized and it was apparent that someone had been there and destroyed a lot of his belongings.
He turned and looked back at the floor where he was lying to find his trusty bone harvester and his magical hat also laying there. Bending over to pick it up he heard a swinging of a door downstairs. Some what startled he ran down the steps almost tripping on his robe only to find the front entry door swinging in the wind, apparently forced open, and on the floor laid piles of parchments and letters.
"What happened, and how am I still here?" he said outloud to himself.
Ignoring the items at his front door he ran back upstairs and proceeded to the roof where he had assembled the portal prior to his departure. The portal still stood and around it where many ripped out pages from ancient tomes and his recent spelbooks he had scribed out before leaving. He picked up a page and recognized the writing on it, the casting components list for certain spells, something he had written the night before he had left. Feeling the parchment he realized it was extremely weathered and aged.
"How long have I been gone, or been back for that matter?"
He went back downstairs and began sorting through the letters on the floor trying to establish what day it was. He had no recollection of what had happened since the ay he crossed into the portal. It seemed like just moments before but his house was apparently unattended for quite a while and the walls were wet apparently from rainstorms and water leaking in through the roof. None of it made any sense though.
He found a letter written to him from an old friend from the Gargoyle city where he resided during his studies and it felt like it was recent. Looking at the parchment he then realized at least a few weeks of time had lapsed from when he wrote the page on the roof and from when this letter was written to him. He had to go visit his friends, where was Vaen and Sadira, how was everyones well being. And how was Summer. all these thoughts raced through his mind when finally he fell to his kness in extreme pain. His mind felt like it was literally stretching, it blanked out at first and then he saw a beautiful woman approaching him in a dark tower. She touched him on the forehead and then a bright light. His eyes opened and the pain quickly went away.
"What the hell, that couldnt have been lady Minax. Where did I go and how could i not remember something like that."
He stood up quickly and ran back up the stairs. Quickly gathering a few runebooks off a shelf he heard footsteps back downstairs. Excited to see if it was any old friends he went back down only to find three humans, all very welled dressed, in his doorway.
"Evoroth?" The Leading man asked.
"Yes and who are you, and moreover why are you intruding in my house uninvited."
"We are of the council of mages Im sure you are familiar with us."
"Indeed, but I have no quarrel with you and much less care about your politics, I havent served Lord British in his military for quite some time."
We are not concerned with that, we are concerned with what that portal is exactly on your roof and where you disapeared to six weeks ago."
"I am just as concerned, your guess is as good as mine. Where I wanted to go is my own business, but where I went I have no idea."
"where you wanted to go was Heartwood, we gathered that from your tomes and notes you left in your desk, Im assuming that has something to do with the Portal standing in yew town square leading to that magnificent place, however unfortunately twas not there that you have been."
Just as Evoroth was about to reply his hands raised up in front of him and sent surges of lighting at the three men scorching there bodies. He had no control over what had just happened but he was starting to get an idea of what was about to happen. He had never channeled so much energy through his body before then, even at his best weeks earlier at the height of his power before leaving he could never harness so much and focus his powers to be so devastating like that before.
And then it happened again, his eyes shut and he fell to the floor. The woman reappeared in his dreams. So beautiful she was but yet so evil looking, she approached him and he heard a voice although her lips did not move.
"My child you have done well, this will all be over soon enough, you just need to eliminate a few more of my enemies and you will be free."
His eyes opened and he stood up straight. Once again powerless his hand reached into a pouch secured to his belt and retrieved a rune. He looked down at it and chanted out loud "Kal Ort Por". He disapeared and the rune dropped to the ground. The rune began to burn away almost as if it was concealing itself, concealing evidence of what was about to happen. Etched on its surface was the The Lycaeum. |
