Ominous clouds filled the sky as the sacred tree of Br'enathium fell to the ground with a thunderous crash. The woodcutter oblivious to the dark clouds continued to prune the ancient tree. Smoke began to rise from the base of the freshly hacked stump, unbeknownst to the woodcutter whose back was toward this strange phenomenon. The darkness grew and a chill fell upon the forest. The woodcutter began to notice the darkness as the hairs on his neck began to raise giving him a sense of something not quite right. As he turned to look behind him and thunderous clap of thunder pierced the air followed by a geyser of mysterious smoke spewing in a vertical column from the stump. Jolted by the unknown phenomenon the woodcutter stumbled backwards falling to the ground with a look of fear on his face. The column of mysterious smoke seemed to shriek as it engulfed the the woodcutter as he let out a unheard cry. The smoke entered his open mouth and filled his nostrils causing the woodcutter to lift off the ground. The metamorphous was near complete and the woodcutter became host to a unknown spirit. The woodcutter's skin turned dark as coal and his hair grew long and white. The woodcutter had become the ancient Drow spirit of Lord Khyldran.

In the time before men the earthen plane of Sosaria was filled with myriad of spiritual forces in the spectrum of good and evil both of whom maintained the universal balance of harmony. The creation of Sosaria was a master piece of creation both animals and vegetation being one with the spirits of creation. The creation of mankind and its introduction into the realm of Sosaria placed within the sacred realm an entity that was disrespectful to the spirits which created animals and vegetation. Man hunted and killed, purged the lands of intricate vegetative creations. Their disrespect grew over the centuries as they spread like a epidemic across the lands. There was one spirit who could no longer stand by and watch what his brethren created and failed to heed his call of the destruction of mankind and the return of the harmonic balance. The spirit of Khyldran interred himself into a stranger who became his host body in the realm of man. On this plane of man Khydran spread havoc and destruction among mankind. The spiritual brethren were angered by this destruction and instilled their knowledge and partial power into their human worshippers called derwyyds. As the forces of Khyldran grew larger and the force against him rose a great battle ensued on the ancient lands known as Malas. Khyldran's forces grew weak from the losses imposed by the followers of his brethren.

The derwyyds whom worshipped the earth uttered a strong incantation directed at Khyldran. The earth rumbled and the sky lit up with thunderous claps as the clouds swirled with impending destruction. As the incantation grew louder and stronger the sky grew more sinister and with a sudden bolt of white lightning shooting from the sky pierced the body of Khydran causing him to cry out in pain. The spirit removed itself from the host body and was directed by the derwydds into the husk of a large tree to be trapped forever.
