Title: Obtaining Lichdom
Author: Ascendant Necromancer
Becoming a Lich, this is an act necromancer's from every corner of Sosaria strive for. But to taste of it's rotten fruits, this is a dangerous game.
To begin your walk down the dark path one must first understand the fundamentals of ascendance.
1. One must die to live again:
The simplest of ideas, but how to end the mortal life to simply rise into another? This question has plagued necromancers for ages, and has caused the untimely deaths of countless of our ilk.
To simply die is obviously not nearly enough, so what must be done to ensure ones "adjustment" to the unliving.
2. Phylactery for the Soul:
"Blast! another seemingly mortal construct on the way to godhood."
This is more than likely your reaction to the second condition. Why must my mortal soul be bound to the mortal plane and not free to roam Oblivion? The answer is in the mindless zombies that roam our cities graveyards. The shades that haunt the cemeteries of our fallen.
Do you wish to enter Undeath as a mindless servant? Or do you wish to rise as a Lord of Oblivion. The flesh is a simple construct, created by simple gods.
Unfortunate as it is, our "souls" cannot leave the mortal plane, lest our minds leave with it. Take note and be wise, to circumvent the second law is to damn thyself to mindless wandering, from which no knowledge will ever be obtained.
3. Do not misunderstand your Immortality:
Vampires may be and burned, werewolves decapitated, even our lesser minded bretheren can be dispatched in the simplest of ways. Do not fall into the category of the uninformed. Even when one does, through arcane rituals older than our oldest records, ascend to Lichdom, one must still be aware of thy weaknesses.
Fire, Ice, Plague. We can become immune to all of these. Through proper meditation and preparedness one can escape the mortal destruction of the body through proper placement of the mind. But if the mind is breached, the body, rotting or otherwise, will surely perish.
Only those skilled in closing their mind to all invasions mortal or otherworldly can truly call themselves "safe" in this eternal state of being. For how does it behoove oneself to exist as a Servant of Entropy when your unlife hangs in the balance of a well prepared soul stealer? Heed my words fellow necromancers, as you ponder how to unravel the very fabric of our mortal coil. Prepare your alters, make fast your sacrifices to Oblivion, but remember always these tokens of knowledge, for when the end is nigh, will you possess the intelect to traverse the stars.
Will you anchor your soul to a realm fated to fade into nothingness. Or will you ascend to Godhood amongst the few chosen lost to the ages in earth and rot.
Until the ends of time.
Till the night doth come.
And sweet darkness takes all.
