Title: On the Topology of Shards
Author: Xxy Sylvr-Dragon
Some question whether we exist in a true reality or a Shard of that reality.
The truth is both. We do exist within a magical sh reality, our existance any less real. Whether this shard is truly a magical creation or not is another question entirely.
Proof for the existance of the shard is simple. Take the world as we know it. Our belief is that the world itself is a sphere. Some believe that it might be flat. Both are untrue and can be proved. Should the world be flat there would be definite edges to itself. As people have traveled around the world by ship we know that this does not exist.
In addition the world is not a sphere. The same fact is proved by these voyages. If someone were to travel along the equator from just north of Skara Brae to the west, they would cross the ocean and return by passing south of the isle of Moonglow and eventually find Britain. However, should the same trip be taken from Yew to Vesper along the latitude of 60 degrees, they would circle the world, AND take an exactly equal amount of time to do so, were there no land barring the way.
Were the world a sphere the distance at this latitude should be reduced. Givent that it is equal we therefore determine that the world is not spherical either.
IF we exist not on a flat world, nor a sphere, how is our world shaped? This can be easily answered from the above observations.
Our world is a doughnut. If you are not framiliar with this pastry it is in the shape of a cylinder whose two ends wrap around and connect.
Disturbing as it is to visualize our world this way, it is the only physical way to describe how our world is shaped.
If a person or ship travels off the western side of the world map they emerge on the eastern side. If they travel off the northern edge of the map they re-emerge on the southern edge. Therefore we must wrap the map so that identical points match.
We first match the top and bottom points, by wrapping up the map. Then we match the points on the eastern and western sidesby rolling the map up like a cylinder. In this way we can see how the world has the topology of a doughnut.
Therefore our world is insulated, apart from the rest of the universe. It is proof that we are part of a shard, which in itself may exist in a different form, but somehow has warped the topology of the world into this inner tube shape.
What this means is obscure. It is only presented here as proof of both the shape of the world and the fact that we live in a magical shard of existance.
