Ceinwyn stood on the roof of the Sepulcher, staring across the void at the main city of Umbra, not far in the distance. Her scouts had reported back, indeed, Vesper Felucca had been taken. Familiar faces of their would-be allies had been seen patrolling the city. Fliers depicting the new order of Vesper had been brought back to her. Various other sources reported back whispers of threat to Minoc, also.

So, Taro, will you come for Umbra, as well?

But, she knew the most likely outcome. The lich had tried already to take Umbra by force. They had even been allies for one of his attempts. She and most of her council knew that Darrien would turn his empty sockets toward Malas, and Umbra.

After sitting in at the Black Mass and watching Imryrr, whom she had once considered a dark sister, spill her blood eagerly for Oblivion, Ceinwyn had known the truth. The miserable lich had managed to sway the control of their allies. Where once Imryrr had been the undisputed ruler of Dark Cove, now her father, Tarothin, even in his still recovering though weakened state of mind, now had reclaimed the order. It was his weakened state of mind that had provided fair game for the servant of Oblivion.

Why else would Tarothin accept, nay, even worship, the very cause of what had destroyed the Dark Order in the first place?

She had not liked the look of where this was going. Ever since learning that the lich had taken up with the Dark Order, she had kept a close watch on her dark brothers and sisters. With their movement across Felucca, she had seen the first signs.

No amount of talking to Tarothin had helped, either. He was convinced that he had Church in control. She had heard those famous last words before, and did not trust it now, either. Tarothin was not playing with a full deck, and the lich had all of the cards up his sleeves.

Now, Umbra prepared for battle. Whether or not they would actually see battle was uncertain, as of yet. But, they would be ready. Ceinwyn, given the option, would rather not have fought her old family. But, she would not risk losing her realm to the lich. Experience showed that it was always best to nip would-be threats in the bud, before they bloomed into larger problems.

After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

And so, Umbra prepared and waited, and watched.

Grandfather! Nyxannas voice rang out in happiness. There stood the current love of Nyxannas young life. Her grandfather, the proud warlord mage of the Dark Order. Nyxanna looked up to he and her grandmother like no others....

Yet dark news had reach young Nyxy's ears and she held back tears as she hugged him tightly. Grandfather I shall not fight you! She proclaimed eagerly. Mairsil was taken aback. Do not worry Nyxy, it will not come to such, calm yourself.

Her words were lost though, she knew that she like her grandmother had great feelings for Mairsil. She knew even now her grandmothers decisions led her down a path she didnt wish to consider. How would she support them both, how would she stop the madness that threatened to tear her life asunder.

For now they would not speak anymore of the impending danger, and Nyxanna was determined, she would go and beg nay plead with the dark order herself. Yes it was forbidden, Yes she defied the will of the Matriarch that could possibly mean her death. Yet her grandfather, he admired this Tarothin, and she would try to speak to him or his daughter.

Nyxy's naitivete was always charming in the past but it was dangerously placing her in a situation where the young mage would compromise her safety. Yet who wouldnt for love? She loved her family like no other and would do anything to protect it. With sadness she realized that Umbra was her family. Of course this meant that she would raise a hand towards any that threatened it.

She looked at her grandfather one last time as they talked and laughed. Did this mean she would have to fight even him? She knew at least that her magery was not nearly as grand as his and took comfort in the fact that it would not be her hand that struck him down.

A sob choked her throat....
