Thomas sits in the tavern at Sanctus, drinking some ale, and thinking about the night's events. He decides to send a letter to Polgara, so seeks Pen and parchment from the inn keeper.
"Dear Pol,
I hope that the cold is not setting too deep into your bones. I am having to sit here at the inn outside Umbra, close to a fire and warm these old bones with some Ale. I promise not to drink too heavily old lady.
And before you start nagging me about finding yet another tavern. I promise to behave myself. I know you are not fond of the drink, and truthfully, I am not either. In my search for truth, I have found it more prevalent when men are in the drink.
I had been searching for Truth, and had heard that the Regency meeting was open to all. Hoping to find some truth's there I had made my way to Serpent's Hold. Apparently, my source was mistaken. Before the meeting was even started, the attendees were taken away via a magical gate to some female elf's house to hold it in private. Some funny little man came up to me and laughed. Then took off with the funny elf.
It was at this point that I had to see if I smelled. How could I possibly smell? It rained just last week as I travelled from Yew. Well, I am more likely to find truth here in Malas that Serps Hold, especially since they left so fast it brings to mind rats leaving a sinking ship. Oh well, the search continues.
Throw some logs onto the fire old woman. I will be wandering that way sometime in the near future. I know you miss having someone to nag on.
Sincerely,
A Tired Old Man..."
Now Thomas looks for some means to deliver the letter, and a refill. It seems that his mug has a hole in it. |

Poledra sat infront of the fire carefully reading over her spellbook,"its open...,"she said before a knock even sounded at the door, hearing the door open she turned and looked to the stunned messenger,"a letter from Thomas..,"she said as she sat aside her spellbook and stood up.
"A...aye..aye..m'lady...,"the stunned messenger said as he handed the letter over then quickly stepped back,"oh don't be so foolish young one..there is stew on the fire help yourself..,"she said then moved over and sat down in her favorite chair and began to read.

Poledra sighed then shook her head,"such an old fool..,"she said as she stood up and moved to get a piece of parchment from his desk as well as his favorite quill pen.
Thomas,
You old fool..how many times must I tell you that if you seek to find truth the search must began in a place where truth has always been..Serpant's Hold is not the place..now before you get yourself into any trouble get on your horse and return home.
Pol
Sealing the letter she tied a red ribbon around it and handed it to the messenger who had not moved from the spot he had been in,"please see that that old fool gets this.,"she said as the young man nodded his head and disappeared out the door leaving Pol with a not so happy piece of mind. |

Boom! Boom! Boom!.....
Thomas wakes up in the inn, to a loud and persistant Boom! Boom! Boom!...
"This is an awful hangover" he says to himself, scrambling out of the bed heading to the basin to wash the sleep from his eyes.
Boom! Boom! Boom!.... comes a knocking at the door. "Thank the virtues, thats the door. If it was a hangover, I would have run to the nearest cliff and thrown myself off" Thomas thinks to himself.
"Yes? I will be right with you" said Thomas " let me make myself decent."
He grabs the half empty jug of sake sitting on the table, and rinses his mouth with the strong drink, just to get the taste of wet dog out of his mouth.
When he opens the door, there is a note that had been left for him. He opens it and reads. He is surprised that Pol did not enchant the letter to scream, because in this state her screeches were potent indeed. He missed those screeches. He should have to go home soon.
Knowing he would get into trouble, he feels he should write back to tell her he had plans to attend a meeting outside Luna. He wanted to share with her the rumor that a new Regent had been elected in a secret and closed session, and that his smell might not have been the cause for everyone abandoning Serps hold the other night.
Well, Luna is the city of Light, perhaps he will find some truth's there. Figuring that if he left for home after tonights meeting he would beat any letter he might write, he heads down to the tavern.
"I might as well have some breakfast to soften the blow of the ale that will come my way later." he says to himself. "I sure do miss that old bat. She might have a tongue as sharp as any dagger, but I sure do miss her when I am out searching for truth." |
