Nimrana found the Den of Sin very quiet when he entered. He scanned the tavern for his usual companions. It seemed to him the three were developing a special bond and where it was going he did not know. He spotted Veszzt Do'Ett seated at the southeastern corner. Nim gave him a nod and sat beside him.
Veszzt told him he just missed Bae'vin Kilduis. Nimrana frowned with disappointment because she was the third member of their trio. He knew they would miss her sharp tongue, caustic humor, and other delightful charms.
One must adapt. He gave Veszzt a wink and opined he could enjoy Veszzt's company regardless. Veszzt squeezed his knee.
Shortly, a crowd began to stream into the Den. They dressed in layers of clothing having the same color scheme, a dark blood red being the prominent shade.
Nimrana smirked. Humans tend to overdress, possibly because they know their physiques lack the trim elegant litheness of drow bodies, not to mention the unsightly hair the males had all over theirs.
Both Nimrana and Veszzt dressed in typical drow fashion, that is to say, scantily. Each wore simple woodland belts and boots. Nim also wore a jin baori. Their gold jewelry contrasted beautifully with their ebony skin tones.
The newcomers immediately began to order blood for their beverage of choice. That and the elongated fangs some displayed quickly identified them as vampires.
Nimrana felt very uneasy about this situation, but the vampires seemed uninterested in sampling the blood pumping in the few ambulatory meals inside the tavern. One of them joined the drow at their table and began to converse with them.
The front door flew open and a man strode into the tavern like he owned the place. Suddenly he froze in his tracks and stared in consternation. Nimrana and Veszzt nearly choked on gales of laughter as they recognized the man as Randall Flagg the Vampire Hunter.
Well, he found them alright. Many pairs of eyes turned malevolently on the man and many fanged mouths opened in horrible grimaces.
The drow just knew the Vampire Hunter had found his last vampire. They eagerly anticipated the feast to come, but then the vampires simply ignored their nemesis. Flagg found a seat in a shadowed corner of the bar, ordered a drink, and made himself very inconspicuous.
Moonglow Town Council members then came in to carouse. Veszzt took his leave. Nimrana wished he had been in time to see Bae'vin and shortly left as well. |
