Eva's hair hung long about her shoulders, the green hair gleaming by torchlight. The dress was simple yet elegant, dark and sophisticated just like the young Lady Gryfith. Netalia hugged her. You look beautiful, Eva! We will miss you so at home...
But Netalia didnt really mean that.. She would be so happy to not have Seraphin's young sister hanging about. She wished to be lady of the house and not have her husband distracted by the whims of his little sister. I just dont understand why you didnt tell us about this sudden fancy for the Strathmore fellow....
Her hand flew up to the locket around her neck, Eva touching the silver locket of Madelain Vail, her mother, closing her eyes she held back tears of uncertainty, fear and something hidden. Shaking her head her red lips parting, no words could form, no sound came for some time. I dont know Neta, I guess he just put a spell on me...
She felt certain in one thing as she stared at Neta, she was certain it was time to go. A gentle wrap on the door and Eva looked up her soft gloved hands running to her face. Do I look okay? I am sure even on my wedding day I couldnt compete! Neta said.. Eva shook her head, Dont be silly my brother almost fell over in lust... Neta looked at her oddly and laughed, what would you know about lust Eva.. shhh thats only for married women to talk now. For the moment you are just a maid....
Eva turned as the door opened and Seraphin walked in overhearing this small bit of information. He smiled weakly as his wife wore a heavy blush. Yet as he looked at his little sister he paused the room seeming suddenly to change, she was so grown up and it was as if a million days had passed within one. He shook his head sadly, he couldnt shake the feeling that surrounded him, the concern that something wasnt right here. Her eyes were ussually so clear, so green, and now they wore a thick haze. Did she protect herself from the far reaching probes of her brothers mind?
They are playing the wedding march, Lady Gryfith, he extended an elbow and Eva took it, as she moved he couldnt help but see how pale she was in the candle light. Like a ghost, a spirit of things to come she moved with him, as the great doors to the hall swung open and Seraphin Gryfith lead his young sister up the aisle.
Lord Strathmore looked elegant to say the least, polished from head to toe his dark eyes alighting hungrily upon Eva, as a predator would its prey. It was as if he was swallowing up her innocense with each fragile step she took and Seraphins feet dragged with sudden weight.
When it was time to let her go, to give her away to this man, Seraphin paused a hush falling over the crowd but a gentle squeeze on his arm made him look down. The smile he had searched for all night at last returned, he could deny her not... Perhaps that was his true weakness.
If the crowd was shocked by the pallor of the couple or the darkness of the gloomy hall, or the oddness of the priest, none made comment....
Two powerful families entwined this day as one....the words echoed thruout the hall. They took on a life of their own and it almost felt as if a feast of spirits were swirling among the living watching the event from some other plane. Eva looked at Jon with a terror in her eyes, and for one moment his gaze softened on his bride, admiring her, then turned nodding to the priest...
I now pronounce you Lord and Lady Strathmore...a smattering of applause, a weeping relative here or there, and then he lead her away. Seraphin and Netalia did not see her again that night as she was hurried thru the throng of people. They were told she was indisposed....
There are some bonds that death does not part... some things that never die as long as the heart remembers... _________________ Something is Wrong, I can still feel Existence... |
