“Awkward, am I?” Cezanne seethed as she flipped mindlessly through the pages of a manuscript. Dark circles rimmed her eyes as she studied spells, read plays, wrote poetry, and generally tried to keep her mind off Morio.
Haydn wasn’t what I expected. She reflected on the female Kitusne’s soft features. She had seemed gentle and brightly-dispositioned. But there was a strength, a latent power that seemed to resonate from within the Kitsune with white tails. And an arrogance when she spoke, the words echoing again in Cezanne’s mind. “I do hope she finds she finds someone to love her. She looks so sad…” And then she had laughed.
The meeting began swirling through Cezanne’s head in snippets, flashing scenes, and disembodied voices. And then there was that infernal Meer. Ugly and awkward, he’d said. As if I am not worthy of love...
She thought back to those who’d shown some interest in her through the years. Those who’d said her smile was beautiful, or traced a single fingertip down the back of her neck as she’d sat writing at her desk. Lingered an agonizing inch from her lips until her eyes closed, teasing her with the promise of a kiss that would never happen. Hovered over her for days, smitten, or weeks, and then lost interest entirely. Maybe the Meer was right.
Cezanne felt the heat rising in her face, slammed the book shut and threw it across the room, smashing a vase on the mantle. Not this time. This time my heart will bleed on my own terms, one way or another. |

The Britain Library. That had to be the best place to look. Valentein had shown her only one other library that was larger, but it belonged to the Lich Lord, and the very thought made her stomach churn. That would be her last resort.
Cezanne made her way through the stacks, perusing books here and there, flipping through a few that looked promising until one word caught her eye. Kitsune. Without lifting her eyes from the page, she found a seat at a table and sat to read. There was so much that she didn’t know about the creatures that she found herself enthralled. But one paragraph in particular described a ball that Kitsune carried with them at all times, in which they stored excess energy. She re-read the last line of the paragraph twice before closing the book, her eyes alight, and sliding it into her pack as she slipped out the door. Quickly and silently, she called in the shadows to hide her until she was ready to return home. Once inside the theatre, she re-read the paragraph, pausing again at that last line.
Without stopping to formulate a plan, Cezanne tossed the book into her pack and flipped open her runebook. She cast her spell, already drawing in the shadows by the time her feet hit the soil of Cove |

Morio stood on top of the gate of Cove, watching the Towns folk milling around doing there daily business he noticed that Ranna was galavanting around being her usual active self...
"For a cub so young she has alot of energy...."
Shaking his head he chuckled to himself...
Walking down from the gate he headed off to the bank, then he saw that Ranna wasn't alone, Cezanne was with her, cautiously he walked up to the pair.
Ranna being her self excitedly yell "Daddy!" and ran to Morio planting a kiss on his cheek.
It seems that Cezanne had offered Ranna a Job in her Theatre, Morio took it all in, ten thousand gold a week plus fifty thousand per performance... not really to be sniffed at, and it would save Ranna raiding his own Coffers... Iruka wasn't a drain on Morio's bank balance either and never was... it seems both cubs are independant....
"I accept, She may work for you...." Morio said
Thinking to himself... My one weakness... I can never say no to Ranna... inwardly chuckling to himself.... She has me wraped round paws alright...
"My only rule is no males... or there is still the tower option.... until you reach a hundred years of age....."
Cezanne said "No males, I agree to that."
Cezanne and Ranna gated to the Theatre, Cezanne had promised Morio earlier that she ment no ill.... morio took her for his word, yet he still felt uneasy.... _________________ cezanna "No, he is a fair and faithful man, Ranna"
Ranna "That's how kitsune are.. well.. I dunno about Iruka.." |

The ideas bouncing off each other inside Cezanne’s head. That last line repeated itself over and over, burnt in to her memory. “It is believed that any non-kitsune who manages to take possession of a Kitsune’s ball will have the ability to command that Kitsune at will.”
She knew instinctively where Morio was, and her thoughts flitted that direction for a moment. But something insider her wasn’t quite willing to sacrifice that bit of pleasure. What victory was there if she stole his will? His kisses, his touch…she paused for a moment, dizzy with the thought…but they would be hollow without his desire. There had to be a better way.
She knew what her best chance would be, and so she diverted herself from a course that would bring her in contact with Morio. There were already going to be so many risks involved that she dreaded facing, no need to bring him into the mix as well. As she walked toward the docks, an altogether new plan fell directly into her lap.
A young Kitsune in a jester’s hat was jingling and bounding through the city with a sense of wonder. She was so beautiful she could only be the child of Morio. She looked so very like him that for a moment Cezanne’s resolve wavered. But this was her chance….She took a deep breath and slid some old handbills out of her pack, carrying them high in one hand. “Hear Ye! Bramble Rose Theatre is hiring actresses, actors and musicians for a grand opening performance!”
From behind her, she heard a beautiful, nearly musical voice, just as she knew she would. “Miss?”
Cezanne smiled brightly and turned. |
