He would stew no longer. The recent outcome of the selection of a new Regent Governor had left him bitter and angry, neither suitable for a ruler's mood, but together wholly dangerous during a time of open hostility with Heartwood. Thraxas took up his pen and scribed a letter to Lady Starfire:
"Your Excellency, Lady Starfire,
I pray that you do well and prosper.
I am writing this to convey my thoughts and sentiments concerning the last debacle we labeled a meeting of the Protectorate.
As you no doubt witnessed, my emotions got the best of me at times, and for those angry outbursts and comments, I do apologize.
However, the basic sentiments remain as do the conditions which engendered them. I firmly believe that there is some kind of conspiracy present intended to prohibit his majesty, King Sid, from becoming Regent. If not that, at least the mechanics of what transpired give rise to that very strong possibility, if not probability.
Let me clarify my assertion. It was our required duty to be fully aware of the rules regarding who may or may not be a nominee for that position, and to enforce them from the outset. When the proceedings went on for weeks, with no application of the rules toward him (him even taking part in the debates), and then suddenly at the last moment cite them as reason for his disqualification, there is every appearance of impropriety. Ignorance or incompetence notwithstanding, the rules should have remained as they were, neglected and unenforced, and the proceeding allowed to continue, even this one time. If that was not possible, then the entire election should have been aborted and restarted. However, as you remain Governor Regent, I suppose we might say that is what happened.
I am positive that King Sid had the votes to win. A mere technicality (a ridiculous rule in my opinion) kept him out. The idea that a noble's interests might supersede the interests of the Protectorate, and therefore disqualify him or her, is ludicrous. We all hail from various lands, cities, and townships. We are humans, elves, (and now gargoyles), having vocations from paladin to necromancer, each with our own vested interests that may or may not color or impair our judgment. To single out one occupation, race, gender, religion, or lineage, noble or not, as improper qualification to serve as Governor Regent, is preposterous and demeaning. This must not continue!
I intend to make a motion the next time we meet to resolve this issue once and for all. At the very least, I mean to open debate on what qualifications should or should not permit one to serve in your capacity. If this means amending or discarding the present law, then so be it. Please place this on the agenda for one of the upcoming meetings, the next if at all possible.
I commend your efforts and support you,
Your humble servant,
Thraxas
Lord Regent of Yew"
He sealed it and sent it by courier to the Governor Regent. _________________ "If a criminal has what you want, you do business with him." |

Star pulled out a scroll and sat down to write her response:
Dear Regent Thraxas of Yew,
I too was greatly distressed by the events. King Sid is and has been a friend for years. To address this very issue, I have hunted down the laws, with the help of King Sid himself, and will be handing them out. It is my intention to make all aware of such laws so we may address those we deem inappropriate or in need of clarification. I can not change a law as they were voted on by the majority. I can only address said issues going forward. I thank you for your support and hopefully we can enjoy a bright future in unity

Star called forth a servant. "Take this missive to Yew and deliever it to Lord Thraxas. I will open a gate for you and you can then return when you are done." Star handed her note to the servant and called up a gate to aid her servant on his chore. _________________ aka: Tatiana Thorn nee Alexi; Summer Kane; Ivory Skyfire; and others |

Thraxas received the letter and read it carefully twice to make sure he missed nothing. Satisfied with his understanding of its contents and its cordial spirit, he sighed and pushed it aside. "That is all one can do," he said to himself.
He determined to meet with the King to inform him of his intentions. What he really wanted would decide whether or not he would or could proceed as he had indicated. _________________ "If a criminal has what you want, you do business with him." |
