The black scorpion made its way into the drow quarter unharmed. It climbed the cool stone walls effortlessly of the tavern and found a space big enough for it to fit through. After looking around a while and not finding anyone, Kelly released the little scorpion of her hold. It turned into a puddle of black ick on the stone floor.
In night hours outside Vesper and Minoc, the silence was broken by the creak of a door opening. A door that had not been opened in what seemed like ages. A dark gray and black mist swirled about the tomb, and, in moments a tall figure replaced it. She took in a slow deep breath before opening her eyes. Her emerald green eyes held a feral gleam and she attuned herself to the living world around her. She felt only hunger and turned her sights to the nearest city...Minoc. She would hunt the wanderers in the woods. She licked her fangs and sped off, occasionally shadow walking to shorten her trip.
The sounds of the city reached out to her, drew her conscience back to the front as she saw the lights of the mining camp and healer cabin. She stopped. She smelled the air and made a silent pass through the mining camp. Gypsies...She thought and silently moved off into the wilderness.
Not far from the camp, she found her first victim. How many times had she fed without killing? How many times had she only taken enough to survive and leave the mortal resting peacefully in an almost euphoric state? Too many to count. Tonight was not one of those nights. Kelly emerged behind the poor adventurer spun him and quickly locked her gaze with his as he tried to scream for help. No sound came as she pinned him against a tree. "shhhh. I wont hurt you." Kelly whispered softly as she worked quickly to entrance him and embrace him in a hug. "Close your eyes and think of a happy place." She purred softly to him as he did what she suggested.
She bit deep, and fed deeper. Her need for blood combined with the lack of having it for so long and suddenly tasting it, drove her over the edge. Kelly felt the surge but was helpless this time. She gave into the need, killing several more wandering souls in the night. The bodies looked like they were bitten by some rabid wolf as their throats were partially ripped open.
Kelly rested comfortably in her home hours after her bloody feast. She traced her finger along the great crossbow Mortal No More that rested on the table before her. She smiled as she remembered the fun times. Perhaps there could be more. She went over to the chest and pulled out parchment, ink, and quill.
After sending her scorpion off with the message, she spent the rest of the night trying to fully regain control of herself. |

Dinner had been good. Really good. He was still savoring the hot black brew from the mug that nestled between his hands. The drink provided a bit of a defense from the cold night air. Setting the cup down firmly to rest in the soil, he stood up from his log and reached toward the night sky with a stretch. The fire at his back in the camp cast his shadow against the wood line, exaggerating his size. Noticing it, he looked around to verify that no one else was in sight before launching into a series of poses, amusing himself at the various forms his shadow took.
At last he grew tired of the childish game and stood in silence for a few moments. Exhaling foggy coffee-breath, he sighed. The drink was amazing, but it too quickly worked its way through his accelerated system. He stepped toward the tree line, intent on answering nature's call. Taking several more steps into the woods to insure privacy, he undid his leather breeches. He stood emptying himself, his fluid splashing upon the frozen soil. Finished, he sighed in relief and began to re-button his leggings.
He froze in place as he noticed the scent of fresh blood that lingered above the stench of urine. The beast within him stirred to life and his breathing came hard to him. Taking cautious and predatory steps deeper into the woods, he intended to track the rich scent to its point of origin.
The smell of blood in the air was so strong here that it had begun to dull his olfactories. It took several minutes of stalking in the darkness before he nearly stumbled over the first body. He caught himself by quickly grabbing a nearby tree branch and looked down at the corpse with a calculating gaze. The man's throat had been ripped open by what appeared to be some animal. Very strange. The natural animal inhabitants of the woods did not usually come this close to the camp, most of them preferred to avoid people.
The fine hairs at the back of his neck rose as he considered the possibility of a lycan attack. Stonegate? Or some rogue werewolf aching to prove himself?
He knelt close to the corpse and examined the sloppy bite. Leaning closer down so that his face was only an inch from the wound, his upper lip curled back as he drew in the scent that hung about the torn flesh. The wound lacked all animal scent. He stood back up, contemplative, and gazed around. Noticing for the first time as his senses grew accustomed to the scent of blood that there was a trail in the air, he set out to follow it.
He found several more bodies, all with the same mangled bite wounds in their neck. All drained of their precious life-giving fluid. There were only two things he hated more than werewolves in the world, one of those being honest work. The other was vampires.
He wondered if these attacks were somehow related to Soren and Umbra as he made his way back to the camp to alert the other gypsies. They needed to vacate the area as soon as possible, it just wasn't safe there any longer. _________________ It wasn't nailed down, was it? They must not have wanted it. |

Xana read Gustav's letter, and took in his words with a sort of bitter disgust.
Angry that one of the sole places that was gypsy birthright was so terribly desecrated, Xana put it in the back of her mind to deal with the problem at another time.
Quietly, she too went around to gather up the innocents and remove them from the area to safer environs. It was a difficult task, to convince people to leave their meager homes and at the same time to not cause hysteria and panic. _________________ An artist is a creature driven by demons ~Faulkner

Kelly paced in her home like a caged cat, eventually slamming her fist into the shadow marble table. "Foolish! Careless!!" She yelled out. She grabbed up her armor and blades and a few other items and set off for Minoc. She went to the city and checked in with the locals to be sure all was well. Cursing herself for the lack of control the night before mentally.
After having made her rounds to refresh the folks all was well, she went out towards the camp. Kelly smelled the old blood and cautiously walked the shadows to where the first corpse should be. She drew her lips back and crouched with a silent snarl. Gone. She went to the others and they were also gone. After whispering a few curses under breath, she went back to the first corpse location and quietly placed a small crimson rose in the stained grass. She pulled off a glove and carved an ankh into the tree next to it and whispered in her ancient tongue, "I am sorry. May Ra shine upon you. May Osiris guide you. May Anubis protect your soul." She did this to the others as well before walking off toward the moongate. She felt some ease having given the victims a prayer and then she cast a wary look over her shoulder before stepping into the glow of the gate and uttering the word "Luna."
Upon stepping out, the City of Light was busy as usual. She went to the stable and her faithful little mare Raven nickered her greeting.
Kelly smiled, making sure to conceal her fangs from the locals. "Hello Raven." She pulled a fresh apple from her pack and the little black mare took it happily. Drooling and smacking as she devoured it. The pair walked out of the stable together and decided to just watch the locals for a while. Though Kelly had a gut feeling, she held it in check as she observed in silence at the bank. |
