Kelly slipped from her coffin with graceful ease. She performed her nightly rituals of stretches and then checking her home. All was quiet. Except the wildlife. The forest seemed a buzz of excitement, which, for Kelly, was an alarm. She grabbed up her gear and went outside to look around. Nothing but an ogre and troll arguing over a carcass of a hind. She dismissed the thought of killing them and ran through the woods to Minoc. The city was also busy in the twilight hours. She came from out of the shadows of the building and stood in the street out in the open looking around.
Like clockwork the citizens came over to her. She stood as tall as some of the men and taller than most of the women at her 5'11" height. Her dark robe hid her feminine figure but the men fell over themselves to greet her. They all wanted to see her even if it was being able to see her exotic face. Almond-shaped emerald green eyes and lightly tanned skin with long crimson locks that fell to either side. There were traces of black beneath the red, revealing only a hint of her once raven hued hair. They knew she was not of the lands but they didn't seem to care. She and Ian took care of them all. Kelly moreso than Ian though. She was the politician of the pair. She didn't mind it.
"Your Grace!" Several younger men pushed and jostled about to get a closer view of her, shouting their greetings.
"Lady Darkhaven!" A few of the more respected shopkeepers spoke and bowed before her.
Kelly bowed and gave a slight curtsy. "Good evening folks of Minoc. How fairs the day and the evening?" She smiled and looked at the audience she now held.
"All is well. The gypsy camp seemed quiet outside more so than the usual. But otherwise all is well here in Minoc. " A shopkeeper spoke.
"Have you seen this?" A young woman squeezed through and handed a rolled poster up to Kelly.
She took the poster and unrolled it, her eyes widened as she read it. Kelly stood quiet a long moment before rolling it back up. "So it seems there is a wedding. I suppose I will have to go wish an age old friend and foe well and congrats upon his union to the Oracle of Stonegate." Kelly ran her gloved hand through her crimson locks and finished her nightly meetings with the locals before walking out to the gypsy and mining camps outside the city.
She paused in thought as she looked at the rolled poster in her hand. 'The question is...Love or convenience? In time it will reveal itself. And time is something I have plenty of.'
She shrugged and made her rounds before heading toward the moongate. Seems spring was approaching. Another year had passed. Peacefully. Kelly was watchful of her surroundings as she walked through the woods. Deep within, Kelly was more than a bit concerned on several issues. The Lich Lord Darrien Church was one, Her drow friends Kalik'six, Drayen and the others and the child the matron carried were another. But the lack of Lightbringers and the seemingly near extinction of vampire hunters bothered her even more. There had to be a balance. Light and Dark. All Kelly could see and hear of was darkness. She had much to discuss with Ian. But for now, her curiosity would have to be sated on simple things. Mortals.
She gave a quick look about as she stepped into the open to the moongate and spoke the word. "Luna" Kelly had to blink several times to adjust her sight to the brilliance of Luna and her sandstone streets and buildings. She walked unnoticed by men and women as they tried to sell off wares and shouted at each other. She did find it entertaining to watch the local hustle of Luna bank life. It was brighter than Britain and Umbra and she had no worry of any would-be Hunters as there had not been any in ages. The other Kindred seemed to remain within the Compound of Umbra under the thumb of the Lich Lord Darrien Church. She shook her head and cleared her thoughts as she watched the nightlife of Luna. |

Adrian rifled through a chest, gathering the rest of his belongings. The remaining gypsies had long fled to the Wayside, and now Soren was safely stashed at the new camp as well. He slung his pack over his shoulder and stepped out of his tent, looking around at the deserted camp and wondered how long it would be before the gypsies could return safely to their home. Over his shoulder there was movement. He peered around the corner of his tent to watch as a figure strode alone through the deserted camp. She looked euphoric as she glanced from tent to tent, making a round before she traipsed out of sight. She was obviously one of 'them' - the not-quite-living.
He still believed that she may have had something to do with the poor gypsies whose throats had been torn out, their broken bodies left to rot on the dark soil. But of course she had not responded to Arahim's request to meet. Either way, he needed to speak with Arahim. Adrian slunk out of the camp toward the moongate and left the woman to her solitary parade. |

She wasn't quite as unnoticed as she might have thought as she walked in the woods toward the moongate outside Minoc. Gustav stalked her from the shadows, abandoning his self-appointed post at the edge of the camp.
He had privately named himself a guardian of his fellows and an investigator of the recent murders of his kin. He had watched as some of the townsfolk had gathered around this being he'd only heard rumors about, and never before seen. Supposedly, this vampire was in charge of the town. How? He didn't know. He could only muse over the possible reasons why.
So he followed her, listening as she named her gate and then stepped through the blue portal. He remained there in the woods, coming to a decision. He would learn as much about her as he could. He would follow her when he saw her in town, unseen. He would take note of her actions and routine. He would watch who she interacted with. Most importantly, he would find out where she slept.
Maybe, he mused, that information would be worth something to her. _________________ It wasn't nailed down, was it? They must not have wanted it. |

Kelly spent the better part of the night just watching the Luna night life. Once she had had her fill, she walked to the stable and tended her steeds Raven and Barra, giving them each an apple after their grooming. "Rest well my friends." She said as they nickered to her. She walked to the moongate and soke the word "Minoc."
Kelly took a few steps from the gate and summoned forth the mondain steed from its figurine. She mounted up and rode toward Minoc, taking a detour through the gypsy camp first. She pulled her mount up to a slow trot as she made her rounds about the tents before moving up to the bank. She dismissed the mount and stepped into the bank. It then she smelled something. She looked around and saw the note brushed up by the wall. Someone had ripped it down and discarded it. Kelly crouched and picked up the note and saw the thumb print in blood. Her jaw clenched as she read it, stuffing the note in her pack with a growl as she stood and stormed out. She looked around at the people, her temper rising.
"Who dared to tear down this note and not inform me or hand it to me?" She commanded. "I want the one who thought it would be wiser to not let me see this!" She raised her voice. The people scattered, running into their shops and locking doors and windows. All but a young man. He was no older than twelve, maybe thirteen. His blue-green eyes stared at Kelly unshaken as she closed the distance between them in but a few steps. Kelly towered over the youth but he still didn't flinch. His hair was tawny and brushed into a ponytail. His clothes were slightly unkempt. She studied him a long moment in the night silence.
"Did you do it?" She stated more than asked.
"No. But I can tell you this. You are being watched. Probably even now." The young man spoke calmly.
Kelly pulled her glasses off to better examine the boy, then reached out a hand as if to shake his hand. "Then let us talk. At the Barnacle."
The boy took her hand they walked to the tavern at the northern end of Minoc. Once inside they took a seat in the corner away from the windows and people.
"Tell me. What is your name?" She spoke more calm now. Her curiosity winning over her temper.
"Name's Jazaer. " He smiled to Kelly. "Lady Darkhaven. "
"So Jazaer, how is it that you know I am being watched? Who is it?" She motioned to a wairtress and the two ordered drinks from her.
Jazaer waited til the waitress left before speaking. "Gypsies. At least a few are. I heard em saying something about savage beasts in the woods near their camp or something. Its why they moved out I think."
The wairtress brought the drinks and some bread over then left after Kelly gave her a few gold coin.
"So what else have you heard? What kind of savage beasts?" She asked.
Jazaer shrugged and took his drink and a bite of bread. "Something of a few gypsy bodies...*smacks lips* found in the woods. Throats ripped out or something." He shrugged again.
Kelly sat back watching the young man. She chuckled. "Of course. You are a gypsy yourself aren't you."
Jazaer froze. He made no move or peep for a long moment as Kelly and he made eye contact. She grinned and leaned forward. She motioned with her finger for him to lean forward. He did so without hesitation. Kelly had him in her gaze. "Deliver this message to the one called Arahim. Tell him someone ripped down the notice and I do apologize for not finding it until this evening. However, I would like to meet with him if he would still entertain the thought. " She then blinked and so did Jazaer. The two finished their drinks and bread and Kelly watched the young man slip off into the darkness.
She opened her pack and pulled forth a book. After flipping a few pages she spoke the words and vanished from within the tavern to her home. |

The streets of Minoc were business as usual as Kelly rode around the locals, stopping here and there to greet them and make smalltalk. All seemed to be in place when she looked over and spotted Jazaer.
She moved her mount toward him, dismissing it only steps from him to stand easily within arm's reach. Jazaer stood still.
"The message has been delivered. Poke around the Gypsy camp and you'll find him in the next couple of nights." He stood calm after relaying the message.
Kelly smiled. "Good. Thank you." She turned to walk away and reached into her pack. Without a warning she tossed a small pouch to Jazaer over her shoulder. "That should do you well for a while."
Jazaer snatched the pouch from the air with ease. It made a sweet jingle when he did. He looked in it and found a handful of gold and several valuable gems. He looked up to give thanks but she was already gone.
He pocketed the goods and went on his way, keeping an eye out from one of the rooftops after a good hot meal. |
