In the past few months, there has been a real swell of in character posts on the boards.
For me, it has been a real pleasure to read what so many others, some I know, some I don't, have created and felt the drive to share with the community at large. It also shows the casual visitor what it is we have to offer here in the ARPC.
Now I tend not to read the many out of character posts herein, and certainly don't agree with Cal when he says everyone writes well, but I do enjoy the many voices represented on these boards. Some of the more prolific writers even change up their style depending on which character they post on, and that just impresses me.
Whether I think you write well or not, I am big fan of the constant encouragement displayed here and would like to add my voice in saying, keep writing, keep being creative. It's good for RP, its good for the community as a whole, and its good just as an outlet.
(I used to PM people about their writings, but that backfired once and I decided it best not to continue.)
Saying that, I'd like to say one thread, six parts, six hundred plus views making each part viewed 100+ times....? Treeee-mendous! |

I LOVE writing! I often wonder how many people actually read all the stories or if they only read the ones related to the rp they or the guild they are in are involved in.
BUT...
I have really enjoyed the stories you have posted Arahim, and I look forward to the ones we've discussed. |

I try to read them all. I love to read. That said, I have trouble with the stories that are nothing more than one long run on sentence or block of text. I just have trouble following it. In the end, I feel frustrated with myself for not grasping the story. It might have been good, but I was unable to keep focused due to the lack of natural breaks in text.
Personally, I have to pull myself out of the creative block I've been in for a month and actually write something longer than a few sentences. So this encouragement helps a bit.
Keep writing ARPC! |

I agree totally.
I'm not much of a writer myself, but I do enjoy reading others stories. I worry sometimes that the authors may get discouraged and stop writing because they don't feel anyone is reading. If that is the case with any of you writers out there, all I can say is, "Don't Stop!" Some of us are reading your stuff, and we appreciate the effort. As for those of you who just love to write. whether anyone reads it or not, I guess I don't need to say anything.
I do share Ceinwynn's opinion as well. If I could add any constructive criticism, it would be to break up those paragraphs. Short paragraphs make for much easier reading.
Thanks to all you authors out there. |

I open every story and quickly skim them for the word Isk. It gets on my nerves when people have 'I ask' in their stories because it makes me pause thinking it says Isk. It only eats up my time. But no seriously, I read a good chunk of stories but there are so many more than there used to be; it is hard to keep up with more than a few authors/characters at once so I have skimmed my list of people who's posts I read. There are instances where I expand my reading based on another character being mentioned in a story I like, I'd go find a post by that mentioned character and read it. Its a complicated system. |

Don't be like that. Just cause I don't want feedback about my lame little stories doesn't meant other people don't. |

I love criticism of any variety... as long as it has met my friend "Constructiveness!" _________________ "Detached reflection cannot be demanded in the presence of an uplifted knife."

See, even though I did mention Edda in passing, and it was meant kinda tongue in cheek, this post wasn't about anyone in particular. I know as people we tend to take all things and relate them back to ourselves. Especially on these boards.
In any case, it was just a keep up the good work thing to the whole community.
Also, its every writer's dream to post their little slice of writing and hope they gather an audience. Maybe even rack up an unbelievable 100+ hits in a handful of hours. Thats just good stuff. |

I didn't say the whole thing was about me. I just knew the pming thing was. I am not conceded enough to think you were giving me kudos. I am a terrible writer, I know this, it doesn't bother me, I do it because its fun! and it helps with plots.
Anywho, I agree, there have been a lot of IC posts, its nice to see how active the arpc is! |

I WAS giving you kudos. That PM was super-positive. I would never PM someone with negativity, I'd just ignore it. |

I PM folks as well from time to time, particularly ones who don't write often or are new to the community. Its never done in jest or ridicule, its always genuine as I'm sure Arahim's was. |

Actually, its interesting that you say this Arahim, because whenever I initially arrived over here at Ft. Meade @ Student Company, I too took up the art of writing. I probably would've shared some of the stories here on the ARPC boards but the story I worked on never really persisted of Ultima Online content.
However, the reason I make this reply though is because ONE thing that I did run across before I was sent out here was a book that I came across during family day after my graduation of Boot Camp. It has inspired me, and others whom have borrowed it, to continue their writing endeavors in hopes that even if others do not enjoy their writings, that they continue to strive to write, if not but only for themselves to fulfill their creative desires.
This book, friends, is the Art of War for Writers.
I implore all you writers here in the community, check this book out. It is worth the read. _________________ AKA: Gryss ab'Arawn
