There was something special about waking up beside him, her Adrian. And while she would be doing so off and on for the rest of her life, the day to day part was coming to an end. In the real world, they both had things to take care of and errands to run. She had orders to fill; he had wood to cut and runs between camps to make.

Soren put the last of their items in the soft leather pack and attached it to Stormy’s back. Most of the bigger stuff was gone now, having been taken back to camp on a pack horse. Straightening back up she felt the familiar touch of fingers along the small of her back. “Do you have everything you need, Sparrow?” The palm of his hand slid softly into place, as if that spot was custom made for his guidance. Soren turned round and looked up, tilting her head to gaze into his eyes.

“Yes, My Adrian. I finished just a minute ago. We can go whenever you’re ready.” Shifting position, Adrian took her hand and led her downstairs with Stormy clicking away behind them. “It’s been a good cottage. Happiness lives here.”Adrian gazed down at her and nodded, a smile spreading across his handsome face.

“Happiness is anywhere we are together.” Soren’s heart swelled with pride.

“Then let’s go home.” Adrian pulled the door of the cottage to. Once Soren was mounted he reached over to the white horse sitting just beyond the meticulously manicured lawn and duplicated her motions, mounting up. In unison they called out, “Meet you there.”

“Kal Ort Port.”

Unpacking back at camp went pretty easily. Years of putting things into small areas and making good use of the space had given Soren practice in organization. One by one she carefully pulled out the wedding gifts people had so graciously given her and her new husband and placed them in the tent. Their tent. She loved that word, theirs.

The windchime of icicles was hung up in the doorway so that she could always hear them, statues were placed on pedestals, jewelry put in a safe lock box along with gold and checks, and the rose.. Soren’s thoughts trailed off as she studied the rose. They had had it for weeks now and yet not one petal had wilted. There was no discoloration and the fragrance still filled the air as if it had been cut just this hour from the vine. A deep crimson, it shimmered in the light slightly as if dew had newly touched it as well.

Running her hands along the stem absentmindedly, dissecting the rose as she did, she yelped in pain. “What in Gods names..” Soren peered closer and her eyes locked on the thorns that had stabbed her as her hand had ran along it. “I clipped these the morning after and yet here they are again.” Pulling her hand to her lip quickly, she sucked gently trying to clear up the blood the thorns had drawn from her. Nauseated by the sight and taste of her own blood, she swirled slightly on her feet. Regaining her balance she took another close look at the rose. Second leaf from the top the veins curled and intertwined in a delicate design. “Is that what I think it is?” Sure enough the leaf itself had the image of a Dragon, and not just any dragon but one of the Tokuno Dragons, living and breathing inside the leaf of the rose. Her Grace, Lady Ariana Lenoir’s gift, was not your typical rose. That was the one thing Soren was sure of.

Soren started to call out for Adrian. He needed to see this, and now. But he had already gone over an hour ago. A letter was in order.
