As her niece left for an evening of revelry at the Meadhall, Merrique paid little attention as the girl primped and preened before the mirror, turning this way and that to admire her own form or to flip her hair about.

Half asleep in her own bed, she had too much on her mind to worry about Madelyn's latest nonsense. Such things as setting up business relations to ensure the continuation of a comfortable life, certain family affairs, working with the people hired to restore the property out on the peninsula, and things of a more personal nature weighed heavily on Merri's attention.

"Bye, Aunt Merri," came the girl's voice just before the door slammed closed, "Wish me luck!"

With a groan at hearing Maddy's departing words, Merrique fell back into a blissful and pleasant sleep. When she rose a couple hours later, she found her way to the kitchen and sat sipping a cup of herbal tea. Merrique's mind was, for once, free of too many burdening thoughts. Lately it seemed to be an act of mental superiority if she were able to limit her thoughts to twelve at a time. Musing over the designs for what would hopefully become a port, her thoughts were shattered into pieces as both doors flew open.

Madelyn, ever the dramatic type when excited, burst into the kitchen and ran past to a teleporter, apparently in a hurry to go to the dormitory style bedroom above.

"I thought he was gonna hurt me! If anybody comes here, tell him I'm at the beach!"

Blinking into the nearly empty teacup, Merrique took pause to wonder just what kind of men--or boys, perhaps--Madelyn surrounded herself with.

It was time to get back to work.
