A vellum scroll, sealed in wax stamped with the emblem of the House of Ond, arrives at the home of Lady Joanna Weaver. The scroll, gilded within with gold leaf, bears the following message, written in a fine, flowing script.
Lady Joanna,
Your commission is complete!
Although the task was among my most demanding yet, my extraordinary skill has seen me through it, and I am certain you and your most distinguished bodyguard will be pleased beyond words with the final product—although I suppose, for him, that could hardly be considered a noteworthy accomplishment.
I cannot, in all honesty, say that it is my greatest work, but, as my first commission for a gargish client, I am quite proud of the result—just as, I'm certain, your trusted man will be to wear it.
I have also, in a moment of inspiration, crafted a fine ceremonial gargish spear, which I will include with your commission when I present it to you. Additionally, I have instructed Oliver Dunham, an employee of mine and a most gifted chef and scribe, a, to prepare a special gift for you, personally.
I eagerly await your presence at my manor house, as well as your future patronage.
Yours,
Killian Ond, Master of Crafts, Lord of Ond Manor _________________ a.k.a., Killian Ond, Oliver Dunham, Iorwerth (ap Gruffydd), Husam (ibn) Sadid, Ortinlem |

She gazed at the ornate scroll with a smile. Killian Ond was more and more proving that he was the artisan he claimed to be. She set it carefully down on her scroll shelf beside Cezanna Abella's equally fanciful scroll. The response written on common parchment with just the golden seal of her merchantry that would return to him was far less artful, but she knew that that was what he would expect.
Greetings, Lord Ond,
I am pleased with the speed in which you have filled my order and I look forward to returning to your shop to view your finished craft. I have no doubt as to the quality and detail in which you put to your creations.
I am sure that my guard will treasure your gift. He is, of course, fond of all types of weapons. Your gifts are greatly appreciated and inspire me to generosity. A bonus will be equally appreciated, I am sure.
Please tell me the hours I may stop by to claim my purchase.
Many thanks,

In his typically self-satisfied manner, Killian smiled smugly and stroked his mustache as Oliver recited Lady Weaver's response.
"Oliver!", he shouted, as his scribe spoke the final words of the letter. "Draft a response!"
Oliver nodded and reached for a piece of the same type of gilded vellum sent in the previous response, only to have his grasping hand slapped sharply aside, as if by a parent rebuking a child. Just as suddenly, Oliver heard his name once more, this time in a far more irritated tone.
"OLIVER!"
Oliver merely sighed as he rubbed away the pain from his hand and shook the ringing from his ears. There was no need for such a dramatic gesture, but Oliver knew his employer was fond of dramatics. He sat, eyes rolled up, as Killian continued his admonishment. He knew the rent for his workspace was not paid in gold, but in silent acquiescence to the 'great' Lord Ond.
"I do believe we made our point with the last correspondence! I'm sure Lady Joanna is QUITE impressed. She mustn't be made to think that I so lack appreciation for the value of that material that I use it for every little message!"
Killian continued his lecture for several more minutes, repeatedly segueing into other topics, including Oliver's cooking and the artistic merits of sculpting with mongbat guano. Eventually, he became so disgusted with what he was convinced was Oliver's unrepentant philistinism, that Killian stormed out of the workshop without dictating a response. Fortunately for him, Oliver knew he would be blamed and had taken the liberty of writing a reply during his employer's tirade, this time on a fine, but not overly gaudy length of parchment:
Lady Joanna Weaver,
Your rapid response is most appreciated. I can be found within my manor house attending to my other projects between the hours of six and eleven. You and your bodyguard may claim your commission on any day within that period.
Yours,
