Man, I am annoying today...
Questions for you guys...
1) I see ICQ is still in use. Is this the preferred method of peer-to-peer communication? Have we still not accepted AIM into our lives?
2) Do people still frequent IRC channels? If so, what channels are they? Do you still use the Stratics server?

ICQ, yes. IRC.. not really. There are a few old IRC channels left but there isn't an active IRC channel anymore for the ARPC.

That's kind of a bummer. So does most OOC activity go on using ICQ, then?
I always felt IRC was a good mechanism for bridging the gap between OOC and IC. It allowed you to forge friendships and relationships outside the game that made your IC interactions stronger. Is there no place like that anymore?

I believe there is a Vent or TeamSpeak server that a lot of community members frequent, but there isn't an active ARPC IRC channel anymore that I know of. IRC was a blessing and a curse. Yes, a lot of friendships were forged but along the same lines, a lot of enemies were earned as well. I miss IRC for the reasons you stated, though. I feel like I don't know anyone outside of my guild, since I too just returned a little earlier this year. IRC is where I used to fraternize with a lot of the community members, inside and outside of OES. If an issue needed resolved, each guild usually had their own channel. All of OES used to be in IRC and you could always find the leadership in #ebonskull.
But then again, like I said, it was clique-ish and a lot of deep seeded hatred was born in IRC.
I'm sure someone could provide the Vent/TS (not sure which it is) info, but I don't know any of them offhand, my girlfriend says I am annoying when I chat with the computer, so I don't :/

There's a chat channel in game for RP.  You can access it via the menu. No one uses AIM, maybe because AIM is ICQ (i heard they own it, not sure. ) I always disliked AIM, anyway.
Vent? Different guilds have their own. I am not sure if there is a consolidated one. There has been discussion on and off for a couple years for that and IRC channels. The IRC though is kind of unnecessary nowadays due to the implementation of the improved chat channel system in game. |

Chat channel? I am intrigued. There wasn't one when I played (or at least nobody knew about it). Can you explain further? Is this the same thing as chatting in-party?

They finally made chat useable (thank goodness). You click on your chat button here.
Then choose the arpc channel. From there, to talk, you just hit the comma button and type.

Vent and ICQ are certainly the most popular ooc forms of communication, vent in itself is really cool.
As for AIM - while not many people use it as they do ICQ..keep in mind the times have changed..People with ICQ can talk to/add people on AIM.
Icq works with a couple different chat programs like that.

IRC still has some old faces in it, but its mostly just a medium of communication for people to check in and say hi. It is generally Van Holst, Sketchy, Maskstealer, myself, occasionally Pandora the Fallen, Merleena, Nexus, rarely Gromph and a few people that drop in randomly. |

Ah, so it's become an Old Timers communication mechanism. What channel do you guys hang out in? Maybe I'll hop on IRC occasionally to say hi to the oldies...
