Ancyous spoke to Kaylor, his gaze direct and his tone somber.

"There is an ancient ritual. I believe it will provide what you need, however you must be willing to accept the risks and potential consequences which I warn you now are far from slight." He paused a moment to allow his words their weight, then proceeded. "It is a rite of passage, a quest, which involves fasting and the ingestion of a natural hallucinogen, a personal journey of growth and spiritual deliverance. You must travel to a location significant only unto yourself, completely alone and unburdened, bringing nothing of society with you aside from a small amount of water. This quest may last hours to days during which time you will be forced to look into your soul. You might experience an urge to flee, a sense of impending doom, however this can be overcome by reminding yourself of the desired conclusion and adjusting your focus away from random thoughts. Solace may be found in the knowledge that death dares not tread where your pilgrimage shall take you. It is the acceptance of this knowledge that leads to the revelation, the vision of serenity you seek."

Kaylor walked to the window and pushed the curtain aside, but his gaze did not capture the snow covered landscape beyond the glass, instead his thoughts centered upon the recent upheaval that had caused him to question his purpose, his worth. To remain in this state would be his undoing, for he felt himself falling farther into uselessness with each passing day. "The risk may be great," he whispered, "but no greater than the unacceptable alternative."

The rising sun brightened his room, its warmth beckoning him to wakefulness. Opening his eyes, Kaylor swung his legs over the side of the bed and was about to stand when a small bottle of amethyst colored glass caught his eyes. Upon closer inspection he saw the note resting beside it on the bedstand . . .

For your quest, hermano,

One dram upon your arrival, pero NONE until then! Follow with the same at dawn and dusk each day.

¡Buena Suerte!

Kaylor drew a deep breath, then taking the bottle in hand tucked it into a pocket and proceeded to make ready.

A sudden wild tempest whipped itself about him, sheathing his senses within a dark chill. From the grass upon which he sat there emanated fetid memories of the night he'd stood in this very spot surrounded by vultures of false virtue eager to see his life brought to its end. Much had changed since that wretched time, much had not.

Shifting his gaze he looked down at the bottle resting in the palm of his hand, its violaceous hue bringing forth a soft smile to dance upon his lips. "Of course you would have me remember my responsibilities, gypsy," he laughed. "Don't think for a moment your intent is lost on me." With an amused shake of his head he removed the cork and lifted the container to his lips allowing a small portion of the bitter tasting liquid to flow over his tongue, hoping it wasn't too much. "As well, don't think a simple knight possesses the wherewithall to know how much be a dram!"

Suddenly . . .

Euphoria
Racing Heart
Agonizing Flames
Penetrating Cold
Savage Blues and Reds
Paroxysmal Light
Fusillades of EbonyObscurity
KALEIDOSCOPIC RAGE
Last Chance
GONE!
Reach, Reaching, Reaching Without Arms
Walk, Walking, Walking Without Legs
Speak
No Sound
SCREAM!
Nothing
Sweet blossoming heather. Faerwhynne. FATHER!
Breathe
No air!

Ave Requiem
Breathe
BELIEVE!
