Drayden returned home late that evening. It never surprised him how much one sniveling human could anger him. The confrontation hardly came expected, or welcomed. Surprises always seemed to come up though. The bits of information he retrieved tonight had verified his fears that some of his brethren had been captured. After stalking about the Office in Buc's Den for several moments to vent his anger on the nearby furniture he sat down at the large stone desk to write this letter to Lord Isk. The letter is neatly written in concise and systematic letters:

Lord Isk:
Imagine my surprise when I am informed that one of Brotherhood is missing. If your goal was to spoil an evening of entertainment by Cal and his sparring partner, then you succeeded Lord Isk. I will put this proposal simply and plainly so that there is no misunderstanding. The Brotherhood demands proof of life of your supposed captive and the identity of this Drow. I demand to know why I should stop my brothers from having Lord Thraxas executed publicly, over and over again. I will bring mages from all parts of the land to keep him in constant suffering. There is no end to my creativity in these sorts of matters. This of course can all be avoided if you comply. I have more than enough pets, I don't need another human noble, nor do I desire to go through the trouble of cutting him up and delivering him to you in a wonderful gift chest. That takes time, it makes a mess and it just attracts vultures.

I want the hostage returned. If you agree, then I will release Thraxas to your custody immediately upon exchange. I hope to hear from you soon on this matter, and a time and place that is agreeable for us both.

Regards,
The Patriarch

Drayden had Magistrate Narshan take the letter to the Vesper bank and have the letter delivered.

Emotionless, Isk twisted the thin strands of white hair he had cut from his drugged Drow captive. His detached green eyes were cold and bereft of anything that could even faintly be considered good intensions. With the map of Britain stretched across the table the Magnate slid the white strands of hair within the letter he would soon send to Drayden and placed said letter to one side of the Britain Pass, with the other hand he placed the missive sent to him from Vesper on the other end of that same pass as if the letters represented pieces and the map a game board.

Drayden

It has been a long suspicion of mine and that of the Maritime Union that lord Thrax has been in Drow captivity. I hope for your sake he has been well treated. Our captive on the other hand, has been beaten and drugged. She spends much time speaking to walls in her vile tongue. Though we do not know who she is, it is certain that she is a high ranking Drow. All physical forms of torment will desist. We will trade her for Thraxas.
Let the mountain pass that leads from the city of Britain be the point of exchange. We can escort our captives to the centre and make the exchange there.

We will do the swap as soon as can be managed.

Attached you will find a lock of her hair.

When Drayden awoke from his slumber he found the hasty reply waiting for him. He took a moment to read it again, making sure he understood clearly. The Patriarch's eyes narrowed as he saw the lock of silvery white hair fall onto his desk.
All are accounted for except for two...one of them is female...
The letter caught fire in his hand as he watched it patiently, feeling that unsettling anger in his blood. He dropped it to the stone floor and took a deep breath, calming himself enough to write intelligently and not emotionally.

Lord Isk,

The Brotherhood does not have interests in kidnapping people like Thraxas. He was destined to serve us from when we bought him. We needed a slave, not a spoiled, over indulged red headed man-boy. I have kept him in our hotel and given more hospitality than any of your ilk deserve. I would hope that will suffice.
As for the exchange, I prefer a neutral location. Meet me at the bank of Trinsic this evening and we will exchange them.

The Patriarch
