*sorry, its kind of long*

Cuthbert stepped out onto the roof of his small residence next to the Jhelom farms to take in the view of the tiny island during the sunrise. He took a deep breath and allowed himself a little smile. This is what he needed, a break from it all. It was good to be back in Jhelom, the city he considered his adopted home. He loved Britain, and had grown up there, but Jhelom was where he had matured, where he had become the man he currently was. No. That wasnt quite right. Because the man who he was when he finally left Jhelom was a man full of hatred. A man who swore revenge on all non-humans for the slaying of his parents at the hands of Orcs. He was no longer that man. It had been quite a while now since he had left the Hand of Humanis, he had done quite a bit of soul searching. And, he now felt he had come to terms with what had happened. He could lay it to rest. That was part of moving back to Jhelom. He wanted to come back to the place where things had first started to go wrong. Maybe in some feable attempt to do it all over again, do it the right way. Be the man he knew his parents would have wanted him to be. So here he was. As he looked out to the west over the water he muttered to himself. "I'll get it right this time..."

While the discovery of Malas was by no means anything new at this point, Cuth still knew very little about the land. He stayed mostly in Sosaria, traveling occasionally to Britain or Moonglow, but staying mostly in Jhelom and just enjoying being there. He would go to the dueling pits if he grew bored and was a regular fixture at the Horses Head Pub. Sooner or later, though, his curiousity got the best of him, and he began exploring the city of Luna and its surrounding areas. The Crystal Fens were rather boring, and the vendors who sold their wares within the Luna city walls could be arrested for extortion. Eventually Cuth found his way to the Divide of the Abyss and the long bridge that connected the two great continents of Malas. This, of course, lead him to stumble upon Hanses Hostel.

His first thought of the Hostel was that it wasnt much to look at. A few tables, a few private rooms, nothing terribly interesting. What Cuth
did find interesting upon his first visit was a slim, scantily clad girl standing in the corner by one of the tables. Cuthbert walked over and introduced himself. "Hail, I am Cuthbert."

The girl looked at him rather timidly "Hail m'lord Cuthbert"

Cuth smiled a bit. "You dont need to say that 'mlord' stuff with me. Whats your name?"

"My name is Nakita, m'lord Cuthbert". Cuth laughed a bit. If she wanted to call him m'lord, he supposed he couldnt break her of it.

The two made idle chatter for a bit, the girl continuing to be rather timid. Moreover, she wouldnt sit down, even though there was a chair directly in front of her. "Nakita, why dont you have a seat?"

"Nay m'lord I cannot do that. This chair is for my master"

'Ah...' Cuthbert thought to himself. 'Thats why shes so timid, why she wont sit down... shes a slave....'

"Nakita, who is your master?" Cuth asked. He wasn't, however, prepared for the answer she gave.

"The name of my master is Gromph."

Cuth was rather shocked, but kept his face emotionless. Gromph. There was a name he hadnt heard in some time. Moreover, it was a name he was happy to not have heard in some time.

"Gromph.... your master is Gromph?" Even as Cuthbert finished the sentence, the doors to the Hostel opened and Gromph entered. He walked over to the table and Nakita showed him his seat. He mumbled something to her and she nodded. Gromph looked over at Cuthbert, his face concealed under a bone helm.

Cuthbert, against his own will, shifted in his seat. Internally he cursed himself. Shifting uncomfortably under someone elses' gaze... how weak. He may have rid himself of the ghosts of his past, but his skills and warrior mentality had also worn away a bit. That would have to change.

"Gromph... Been ages since Ive seen you"

Gromph looked over Cuth in such a way to convey that he was trying to remember who he was. Cuth wasnt fooled. All part of the game. Cant show weakness. No swords in this fight, only intimidation.

Gromph nodded slowly. "I suppose it has. Too bad you've run into me again. I hope our time together is...brief." Cuth guessed that if he could see under Gromphs helm, he would see a nasty sneer.

"And how is it that I did come to run into you here Gromph? What do you do in these parts? Dont you belong in Caina?"

Gromph snorted. "Caina is... spoiled ground. We've taken Umbra now..."

Cuths chest clenched. "We? What do you mean we?"

"The Skull. I mean the Ebon Skull. Umbra is ours." Gromph sat back in his chair. "I mentioned earlier I hoped this encounter would be brief.... I meant it."

Cuthbert got up from the table. He was fairly shocked and decided it best he leave the Hostel to compose himself. On his way out the door he turned to face Gromphs table. "Im sure this isnt the last we will see of each other..." He untied Rusher, mounted the horse, and rode off towards Luna.

The Ebon Skull was returning... not to Sosaria, to Malas. But still... the evil was coming together again. He felt in no real danger...at least not yet... but if the day came where he had to defend Jhelom, he would, and to the death. He would watch and listen carefully to the moves the Skull was making, and if the time came, he would recruit others to defend his island home.
