Arlin looked over his gathered men, several of them tending to the wounded from the last Orc raid. He sighed as they were carried back to the hospital, the medics moving frantically from person to person.
He looked over at Vaen and Arcana, and thier assembled troops. Combined with his own Army, the Legion and Knights formed a mighty force indeed. All formed up and ready to go to battle within minutes notice.
He motioned for Arcana and Vaen, discussing a battle strategy. Vaen had one outlined, a damn good one Arlin thought, and so when the moongate opened, they all set off for Orcish territory. Arlin sent three of his fastest men to scout the area, and they reported back, having find only one orc that quickly retreated into the shack.
Scowling, Vaen and Arcana could both see Arlins brooding desire for revenge. Vaen himself took off into the forboding woods, this time sending word back that he had found the orcs, at thier fortress. The gathered army swept down on the hapless orcs like a plague. Soon, four orcish bodys lay in pools of thier own blood, steam pouring off of thier still-warm corpses in the cool Fellucan night.
Arlin looked over the amassed forces, his head filled with a delightful idea. But first, it was time to celebrate this small, but importent, victory. Rachel gated them back to Legion Isle, to the Golden Serpants tavern. There was much carousing and singing through the night, as the Legion, the Army, and the Knights all became like brothers.
Arlin and Arcana joined in the drinking with Vaen, and as the soldiers began to filter out, Arlin proposed his idea to Arcana and Vaen. 'Eh, I were thinkin', we done put together a mean army we did, if we all was allied ta one another, think a what we could do?' Arlin grinned as he spoke. Arcana agreed heartily, having already been privy to Arlins idea. After all, she was his advisor on all things diplomatic.
Vaen nodded, rubbing his chin in deep thought. 'I will have to discuss it with the Council, but the idea has much merit. But for now, let us return to drinking!' With that, the ale bottles went up once more, and Arlin and Arcana snuck off to a corner. She leaned her head on his broad shoulder, his arm wrapped protectively around her shoulder.
'So much for our quiet night, eh Arlin?' she looked up at him with a half smile. Arlin nodded, his mind abuzz with an idea that was slowly taking shape. He stroked her golden locks lovingly as he thought.
'Eh Arcy, after the festival, 'ow about's you an' me git away from it all. A nice quiet dinner an' sumthin romantic fer ya afterwards.' She looked up at him, a bit taken aback. He then noticed a quiet sadness in her eyes, probally remembering the last time they were supposed to have dinner. Arlin flinched inwardly, but kept up his cheery disposition. 'Whadda ya say Arcy? I know a great retaurant outside a Vesper that makes some great fish.'
She was nearly aglow with delight now, as she responded 'That sounds wonderful Arlin. I look forward to it'. As the night went on, the other patrons filtered out. Arlin and Arcana soon followed suit, but not before Arcana had recieved what Arlin believed was a strong reprimand from one of her knights.
They fell asleep in each others arms back at Riverun, both looking forward to the festival now more then ever. _________________ As the fire fades to night, remember always the ember that started it all. |

When Grig'nag heard the news of the attack he was momentarily stunned. Both by the audacity of such forces to attempt to draw Orc blood on their lands, but more importantly, by the combantants.
Reports had come in that the leader of the Army of the Frontier and even several members of the Legion of Justice had killed several orcs. Perhaps Grig had given the half-breed Ogre too much credit? Was this Arlin seriously throwing aside his agreement to not move on Grishnakopoliz in return for the safety of his loved ones? If he was, retribution would be coming soon..
However, another thought dawned on Grig'nag as he pondered the situation. Perhaps the wayward Ogre had simply come seeking revenge? Revenge was far from an unknown concept to the Orcs. Arlin did have reason for it, after all. Seeing as the Legion of Justice weren't exactly best of pals with the Orcs either they just tagged along to get in on the action.
Perhaps it was too early to decide if Arlin needed to be punished for breaking his word. However, retribution is retribution. Just because Arlin had been "wronged" by the orcs, didn't mean all was equal. The Stormweaver would simply have to respond... in kind. _________________ Femmies?! Howwah!!
Can't we all just get along? No? Excellent. |
