The sun began to peek over the shores of Nujel'm early that morning. Rufus sat upon the roof of one of his old homes on the outskirts, wide-awake, peering out into the horizon. Dried streams were upon his face…for it seemed he had shed a tear. Surly the Sultan of Nujel'm and Regent of Britannia cannot break his mental pillars and succumb to normal emotion as any other would. But it had seemed that all his life, he pushed to remind the people voice his thoughts to the people…aside, Rufus was Human. And perhaps he had reached his limit.

Beside the tattooed man lay a pen and parchment sealed by a red stamp. In an hour or so, he would return to the palace and pass it to a messenger, to have the missive spread across the land. "In life the burdens and obstacles that we face may seem overwhelming, but we must fight on and pray that we can overcome, or else we fail…to ourselves most oft and nay others…"

****************

On this day I Rufus Oryan, Governor-Regent of Britannia, do hereby announce my resignation from said position. I entrust my abilities and power in Lady Labelle Decantor as acting Regent in this time, until the loyalist shall convey and bring about a new vassal to act officially as Regent of Britannia. The Group that is the Britannian guard will be commanded by Tai Kwan Leap, until otherwise decided by the Regent and commanding officers established in that term. I pray that you all will forgive me for the many times I have let you all down, and I cannot have ye all chase my dreams any longer.

Live for virtue and all things close to ones heart.
Signed
Lord Rufus Oryan

Naissia happened to be traveling to the bank in Brit when she came across the news. Part of her was sadden, cause she did indeed believe Rufus was a wonderful regent. She was also surprised. She recalled the last conversation that they had and it seems that he actually listened to what she had said to him. A smile curled about her lips as she thought about their last meeting.

"So what I say to you truly does stick..instead of going in one ear and out the other."

She said quietly to herself. She proceeded on to the bank and did her business. She then started to ponder on her position...and should she stay. She figured that would be up to Rufus.

Lily Prower stands back admiring the last of her Christmas decorations before it is time to take them down for the year. Lily sighs a bit and decides to leave up the decorations until after the first of the year. Lily was just about to take off to fill up her vendor at the Gypsy mall when a pigeon flies in through the window. Upon the leg of the pigeon is tied a letter. Lily removes the letter and gives the pigeon some bread crumbs and a dish of water. Opening the letter Lily reads.
Milady Prower,
I trust this letter finds you well.
Milady, regretfully, I must send word unto you of the resignation of our grand Lord Regent Oryan.
Milady, this requires that I call upon you, for once the nominations and elections of our new Regent are complete, your skills will be required. We will need a fealty ceremony Lady, with all your lavish touches.
I send this now, so that you are informed, and have the advances in notice you need to prepare.
Yours Faithfully,
~Lady LaBelle~

Lily begins reading the letter and is completely shocked. She flops very un-lady like into her desk chair as she seems transfixed on it. Soon her sense takes hold and she turns to her desk. She pulls out her ink well, a writing feather, and a scroll. She soon sets to the daunting task of composing a letter.
M'Lady Labelle
I shall of course lend my services in any way that I can. I only hope that it will be all that my reputation seems to precede me. I am deeply saddened of this news that his Lord Rufus has resigned his post. I shall not let this sadness keep me from my duties.
Decorator and plant lady,
Lily Prower

After the pigeon had rested up a bit Lily ties the response to the pigeon’s leg and sends the pigeon on their way. Once she is alone again she returns to her desk to try and reason things out. What caused this to happen and who would ever be able to fill Rufus’ boots?

“My queen, forgive me but there is news that you must hear. Lord Rufus has stepped down as Regent….” Sarah did not hear what followed. Those words by the maidservant sent her mind in a whirl. Knowing it was to happen, a calm of completion overwhelms her.

Dismissing the girl with a wave of her hand Sarah finishes with her dressing and looks into the mirror. “Nujel’m has her favorite son back, whole and complete. Though the realm will be without one of the greatest minds to rule them, they had never fully realized the gift Nujel’m gave to them.” Sarah mused to herself. Hearing the arrival of the Sultan, she quietly leaves her quarters and descends the grand staircase.

Sensing the servants were concern and watchful over the news, the Sultana with all of her elven grace walked with confidence to the front doors of the white palace of Nujel’m. Once the doors were pushed open and Rufus stepped within the cool walled palace did she move.

With elven elegance and grace, Sarah slowly approaches her husband’s side. Slipping her slender hand into his strong one, the Sultana moves to embrace her husband with tenderness. Time hung, suspended in space as the two communicated as only soul mates are able to. Silently they reconnect and solidify their bonds.

Placing a soft kiss on his cheek she guides him to the seclusion of their chamber. Feeling the eyes of the household upon their backs as they accend the stairs, her grasp never waivers upon Rufus' hand. In the privacy of their room, in silence they spoke to each other’s heart as they laid upon the massive bed embraced within their love and within each other's arms.

Upon discovering the recent news of Rufus’ departure the gears in Isk’s mind began to spin. Rufus was able to keep the Regency together but most surprisingly of all he showed that one must not be present in order to rule. The people continued to believe even without his continued guidance. Without a doubt all the loyalists were filled with dread but Isk’s drug soothed mind expended beyond grief reaching for what would come next. Possibilities.
“Surely he was among the most respected Regents” Isk mused to himself as the bowl before him continued to bathe his masked face with the sweet smell of opium. “A great loss”
Bowing forward in prosthesis to a mirror which reflected his own armored image Isk began to think of the possibilities for an ambitious man such as himself...
“I for one like being seen” Isk mused as he stood up.
Only moments later he would recite his hand gestures to the same mirror as his posters started being circulated throughout Sosaria.

LaBelle rose from the writing desk, situated comfortably near the front window of her small dwelling. The knock to the door, had given her start, she moved briskly to it, pulling it gently toward her a few inches, tilting her head to the left, peering out. The stripling placed the tied bundle through the small opening in the door. LaBelle bowed her head, gently taking the group of parchments. As she moved from the door, closing it softly, a large leaflet fell to the wood floor, it’s blaze of color, splendor, and grandeur capturing her. She placed the small bundle atop her writing desk, and knelt to the floor before the curious circular.

Stood the Ambassador to his Lord Regent....stood the masked man, exacting Pride in his posture in the portrait, and Pride in the gesture to send them forth in circulation. On her haunches she rocked moments, before rolling the leaflet, and rising...”So it begins, the egocentric campaigns to a new Regent...” She placed the leaflet atop a stack of worn books, and set once more to her writing desk, unfurling the group of parchments. Since the Lord Regents announcement, had the letters begun, and hers had gone out swiftly, for there was much to be done. And done must it be in good time, as well as in the greater interests of the Government his Lord had left behind...

Having completed those letters she would this eve, and one announcement she rose once more from the writing desk. Taking to her hands, the public missive she had prepared, she slowly nodded her head, closing her eyes momentarily, said she a small prayer to give her strength, courage and wisdom to see the Loyalists through the election of their new Regent...

Several letters were delivered from the small desk of the Lady Chamberlain, and now acting Regent. Several letters, and this Announcement;

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let the Government Britannia a moment
of pause to reflect upon our Grand Lord Regent
Rufus Oryan.
Never was there a man who could still a room,
Such as our Lord.
His words ever ruminant, imploring the
Most intelligent to consider.
While his Lord has resigned his place
As our Lord and Regent, may he not be withdrawn
From with in the each of us...that
His lessons will strive on through his people,
His beloved.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There will be a Regency meeting, this twenty eighth day of our twelfth month
at the twenty first hour in our eastern night.
The people are encouraged to bring forth their nominations at this time for their
new elected Regent.
A decision will be made to the following week, by the Loyalist groups election.

Rellik stood at the Luna gates going through the new posters when one caught his eye with curiousity.It was a posting of the latest declarement of his Lord Regent.

Rellik shook his head slowly in disbelief.

"This is most disturbing indeed."

Rellik rushed quikly to the scribe shop.He knocked on the door of the scribe and waited for an answer.As the door opened a older gentlemen standing in a robe answered the call to the door.

"Is there something we can do for ye Milord?"The aged man asked.

I need ye to take down some words for I and send them out immediately.I will gladly pay for your time." Rellik stated..

The man invited Rellik into the shop and began to his desk for quill,ink and parchment.When the man was ready he looked to Rellik and noded slowly..Rellik then began to speak.

"Lords and Ladies of The Regency
I have recently discovered the poster of the news of your Lord Regent.It does sadden me to an extent to hear such news.I do hope in this desperate time ahead of you all,that when you elect your new Regent,you choose one that has the qualities that the people of Sosaria are in need of.Take this time that you have now before you to consider carefully who you may or may not elect into this position.Be wise in your decision as I know you all are.Allow the Virtues to guide your decision before you.

Rellik

Rellik then turns slowly to the scribe and reaches for a sack attached to his side.He unties the sack and reaches into the sack and pulls forth 100 gold coins and places onto the table.

"This letter is to be sent to each of the Loyalist of The Regency."

Naz walked the streets of Moonglow, enjoying the feeling of being home after a long trip. He had sent Ivae and Miri home ahead of him, since he wanted to check up on the tavern and Moonglow. He was eager to return to his bed.
He spotted a flyer with Isk's image on it. "I wonder how the Regency is faring," he thought to himself. "Sir!" He called out to a fellow tacking up flyers, "Do you happen to know what is going on with the Regency? Why Isk is putting out flyers?"
"Why, the Regent has stepped down. Have you been under a rock?"
"Just out at sea." Naz returned.
He left the man and continued to walk south out of Moonglow and to his tavern. There was just the couple local farmers having a drink, for the tavern never became popular. He greeted them and headed up to his office. Laying the flyer on his desk he pondered about it all.

"I suppose its time for a new leader" he said as he got out some blank paper and a pen.

An Opportunity from the Despair of the Regent’s Resignation

First I would like to express that the resignation of our Regent Rufus Oryan brought some sadness to us all. But it also brings a great opportunity. Though Rufus Oryan had been molding the Regency to face new challenges, his resignation was not unforeseen. Let us hope that our next Regent is capable and able to devote his undivided time and efforts to the causes of the Regency and the Loyalists. This being said let me thank Rufus Oryan for his efforts and his honest desire to do well by the Regency and the peoples of our land. I would hope all would join in wishing Rufus fair winds, success in all his ventures as well as in ruling his domains in Nujelm.

Now for a look into one possible future for our Regency. I pray that now the Regency can rededicate itself to strict interpretation of the Eight Virtues and total support of those who are Lightbringers and supportive seekers of Virtue. May our new Regent be up to the formidable tasks of embodying the Virtues to recruit and unite all the guilds of Virtue under the banner of the Regency. May he also have the strength and patience to work out solutions for the squabbles that have plagued the Regency causing inaction and confusion among the members and with the people in general. A Regent who supports and enforces the Eight Virtues of Lord British may count on the blessings and support from the Holy Church of the Virtues.

I further hold a secret and personal desire that the Regency implement a radical new structure for our society, one that would better promote alliances and cooperation among the guilds of Light. I would like to see the Regency turn from the traditional arrangement of guilds pledging fealty to the Regency but not necessarily the lands or the people. Instead, I would like to see the Regency have a Council of the Eight Virtuous Cities. Through this Council the Regency would promote and support the governments of each of the Eight Cities of Virtue permitting the people to come before any other interests in the lands. Then the Regency could have a singular Oath of Fealty that stressed the devotion of each guild to the Virtues, the People, and to support and reinforce the peoples governments in each of the Eight Cities of Virtue. But to dream of a new beginning, even one so bold, is easy when one does not have to attempt the implementation. But if such a new and progressive plan were to be envisioned, I would do all in my power to assist in bring a new time and new spirit to our lands through which we the holders of power serve the people first.

So, my best wishes to Rufus and my precious wishes and desire for the new Regent to open up a bold new era that holds the Virtues as its center.

"Sire, another message."
The guard placed a scroll on the overflowing table and left. With a grunt, Gareth grabbed the parchment, dropping a few others meanwhile.
Cursing, he opened it and read it, and grunted. "Those humans. So weak and so easy to give up power. The Matron will be pleased to hear that."
With a smirk, he rolled it back up and headed for the anteroom.
