"My Lady,
I send greetings by your husband.
He would write to you, but, alas, is unable. Fear not, he is unharmed, physically. Oh, yes, he has a few minor scrapes and has lost some weight, but we do our best to ensure that he is treated as befits his noble status.
He asks me often if there is any word from you. It pains me to tell him there is none. I can see from his expression that he is both saddened and hurt by it, as if he expected more. I believe he thinks handing over a vermin-infested village of peasants, to my supervision, in exchange for his release, would be a fair trade. I am sure he wonders why you hesistate. The answer is simple to anyone who can see the truth: you who claim valor as a virtue are always confusing it with conceit. You would let those you love languish in a dungeon, and imagine yourself courageous, before you would let go of your pride. Yes, pride above all else... love and compassion last. It is no wonder the foolish principles of a dreamer King now blissfully in exile are being ushered out the door with him, and none too soon, I might add.
Well, it really does not matter. I have what I want, but you, sadly, do not. Nor does he. And I fear it may be a long time before you both do.
As I mentioned earlier, your husband is unable to write. He appears to be suffering from nightmares and hallucinations, as if something truly dreadful is chasing him, stalking him. He cries out in his sleep, and stares blankly during the day, mumbling to himself. Is there something in his background that might have given cause for this? I confess I have given him all the amenities of home; his surroundings are ideal, but still these things persist, even worsen. Perhaps there is something you wish for me to tell him... something that might ease his troubled mind? If so, present it and I shall convey it to him. I suggest you do not wait too long, for there may be a time when I find myself unable to communicate to him... not that I could fail for words, but that his mind might no longer comprehend them adequately. And that would disappoint me no end.
You have but to sign the treaty, or offer a suitable compromise, to have him back with you once again.
I anxiously await any word, m'Lady. Please tarry not to reply.

Resigning herself to her empty office Lilyth began her reply to Lord Thrax. His letter stung, the words he spoke of her decisions not to hand Yew over to him in the name of the Orcs haunted her before they had formed in his deranged mind. That did not change the resolve she knew her husband, even in suffering would accept as the only answer she could give to this would be usurper Lord Thrax.
Lord Thrax,
Your treaty will not be signed by me or any member of the Commonwealth or those it protects. However, as concession to those you claim to speak for The Commonwealth is prepared to offer the Orcs sovereignty within the bounds of the Orc Fort and its immediate surrounds. These bounds will be negotiated at such a time you might provide these Orcs you speak for in the Court of Truth but are not to extend into town limits or encroach upon already settled lands.
I do hope you are treating my Husband well, for your own sake. May your god protect you, for in the end only he will.
Lilyth Noir
Duchess of Yew
She closed the book and handed it to Glory, "Take this to your friends and be certain that it is placed where Lord Thrax will see it, the time has come to take the message directly to his doorstep". _________________ "Always forgive your enemies. Nothing annoys them so much."
