Claudette decided to go find their guild master Max.. “He will know what to do”. So she asked Lord Flair to stay in her stead as she rushed out in search of Max.
She was able to find him and they were back in a short time. Max was updated as to the status of Brianha as he walked into the room she was sleeping in. Lord Flair whispered “she has been sleeping fitfully but sleeping nonetheless” As they were discussing the matter at hand Vaen had found his way there. Lord Flair went to take his leave and found him standing outside the door. He quietly explained the situation and Claudette soon joined the pair wondering if it would be wise to let him in just yet. With so much confusion in her mind they were afraid that her seeing him and knowing he was the man she was to marry would upset her further. Claudette and Vaen went to the sitting area around the corner while Max stayed in the room with Brianha as she began to wake again. Clutching her head she sat up and stared at the man before her.
“Do you not remember who you are?” he asked
“They tell me my name is Brianha Frasier” she replied looking sad
“Yes that is right, and I am Max. We have known each other for some time”
She studied him trying to remember more and could not. Frustrated and scared she felt a tear fall down her cheek. She watched Max look through a pack that was thrown in a corner of the room. He pulled out a book and handed it to her. “I have never seen this out of your possession, perhaps this will help” She studied the book of spells and still could not remember. She felt it was part of her, but she could not remember why. “I do not know why but I know that this book would allow me to leave somehow, can I please go home? Maybe I will remember.” Max sighed and replied “It would not be wise to move you yet. You are safe here and Anything you might need is here for you” She felt trapped with people she did not know. Closing her eyes she sat back clutching the book and thinking to herself “I will find out how to leave once I rest and they are gone, I need to find answers” Max could see that she was overwhelmed and encouraged her to rest for the rest of the night. “We will be back for you, and if you should need anything there is always someone here who can fetch us” She slumped down sighing and rolled onto her side still clutching the book. Seeing her in such a state of turmoil and vulnerability was hard for Max, for she was usually so abrasive with him. He blew out the candle and gently closed the door.
On his way out he passed Claudette and Vaen, both looking worried and sad. “She will be fine. She needs rest as do we. I have instructed her to sleep and will inform the staff to keep a close eye on her and to not let her leave until we return” It will do us no good to sit here right now. We need to get some rest as well to be strong for our return” Sighing Claudette stood and reluctantly nodded. The trio left and went their separate ways, all thinking of a way to remedy the situation.
Brianha heard the footsteps grow softer as the strangers left her. She was alone now and felt that she could release her pain. Allowing it to overcome her, the tears fell freely as she sobbed thinking about what she did not know. Through her tears she mumbled “ I will end this somehow” |

Max was sitting in his house studying a book about tactics when Claudette appeared outside. Any joy he felt in finally seeing a member of the League was cut short by her screaming and flailing about that something terrible had happened to Brianha. The first thought he had was to find out which slayer he would need to grab out of his chest to rescue Brianha from the clutches of whatever beast had felled her, but managing to pick bits and pieces out of the jumble of words falling from Claudette's mouth he realized what he was dealing with was memory loss.
Heading over to the tavern that now occupied the space Poet's Garden was on, Max was led up to the room Brianha was resting in, but not before he had the opportunity to see Ceinwyn...if only for a brief moment...it made him smile inside.
Up in Brianha's room Claudette was distraught and in a constant state of bawling, and clearly, at least to Max, was in no condition to be thinking rationally. He had heard of people losing their memories before, and he knew the chances were good Brianha's condition would improve in time, but the one thing she most certainly did not need was a rush of unfamiliar faces and incessant crying. At one point he drew the ire of Claudette for chuckling. She thought he found the situation funny, the truth was he found her onslaught of sobs, shrieks, and hysterics slightly amusing. Shrugging her anger off he knelt down next to the now awake Brianha.
He spoke softly and calmly, telling her what her name was, and telling her his as well. He did what he could to calm her, at one point handing her the spellbook she carried at all times in the hope that if it brought her even the smallest feeling of recognition she would be able to relax a bit more.
Vaen had arrived, but in an effort to keep Brianha calm Max did not wish him to enter the room. While it was true they were to be married, Max felt that Brianha was more his family that Vaen's, and that it was his duty to look after her and take care of his family. Vaen would have to wait.
Once Brianha fell back to sleep, Max exited her room, and updated the interested parties gathered in the sitting room. With them all feeling better about her health, if not her memory, Max convinced them all to go home and get some rest for themselves.
At home, Max waited until Claudette's candles were all extinguished in her house next door, and headed back to the Freehold where he spent the remainder of the night outside of Brianha's room....just in case she needed a friendly stranger to talk to. _________________ -Max of Vesper, Super Pally Perma NoOb. |
