|
Max did not want to see Ceinwyn the night he left the League. At least that is what he told himself. In his heart he felt quite differently.
“She will think this is all her fault,” he said sadly, “I will wait a few days before I tell her.”
As he sat on the beach thinking of the events that had transpired, he was approached by a darkly clad figure who struck up conversation with him. The figure turned out to be Ceinwyn. She had run into members of the ALV at the Freehold, drowning their concerns with drink and merriment. Apparently they were not forthcoming with many details, but they had told her enough.
It was not hard for her to find him. She had taken him to this beach only two nights prior. He had never seen it before, and was struck by its privacy and beauty. It made sense it would be one of the few places he would go for refuge and solitude.
It was here that Ceinwyn confessed what she had done to Brianha’s memory to Max. Although it might have seemed the news would be additionally troublesome, added to the stress of Max’s guild issues, knowing Ceinwyn did indeed take Brianha’s memory brought a varied assortment of emotions to him.
While she explained her motive for doing this, Max sorted the puzzle out in his brain. He was angry at first that she had deceived him, but that was very quickly replaced with relief knowing Brianha would regain her full memory. Then…strangely…he was amused. He began to laugh, which seemed to take Ceinwyn quite by surprise.
“Why are you laughing, my love?” she asked curiously.
“You did this to hurt Vaen Swiftar? That actually pleases me!” he sounded like he could not believe it himself. “Vaen has been changing Ceinwyn, and I have not been pleased with the changes. I began to notice it when he began fighting for gold, and I have long been thinking he would not be good for Brianha.”
Following more discussion on this and other topics, they retired to Ceinwyn’s house for the night as Max was not soon going back to Vesper.
Waking the next morning, he felt he should do what he could to put Brianha at ease without raising any more ire against his dear Ceinwyn.
Dear Brianha,
I am truly apologetic for what you witnessed the other night at Claudette’s house. Please take me at my word when I tell you it was not any fault of yours. I would also like to assure you that contrary to what the members of the guild have said, I have not changed. I have simply fallen in love, and I fear they are jealous my attentions have not been squarely on them recently. I have confidence when you regain your memories, you will see the truth in what I tell you, and you will realize how much I care about you and the rest of the League.
I have full confidence your memories will return to you in time, and I have felt that way since the day you lost them. I would also like you to know that Ceinwyn also cares for you, and has done nothing to cause you harm. In fact, she has gone out of her way to help you in this trying time.
Stay strong, and I hope to see you soon.

-Max
Sealing the letter with no distinguishing marks in the event it might be seen by another member of the ALV, Max headed into Luna to rent a pigeon to deliver the message. Although the bustling city was warmer than Ceinwyn’s house up to the north, he did not stay long, in an effort to avoid running into any members of the ALV. It was just too soon to have to face them. _________________ -Max of Vesper, Super Pally Perma NoOb. |

Brianha was sitting on her rooftop garden pondering all that had transpired in the past few days… she sighed thinking of how much of a burden she felt to all her friends and family. She looked up hearing something land on the ledge and noticed it was a pigeon with a letter attached. Grabbing some seeds from a bucket she kept in her garden she rose and went to the pigeon feeding it to keep it there for any reply she might send.
After reading the letter from Max she ran down to her bedroom and collected what she would need to write a response. She ran back up to the rooftop to ensure the pigeon was still there waiting, and began to write a letter to Max:
Max,
I will be honest in saying that I do indeed feel responsible for all that has taken place. If I had not been so clumsy this would have never happened. It pains me to see the rift that has been created amongst our guild and our friends, and I want nothing more than to find this mystical crystal ball so that I may prove twas only my own clumsiness that has caused my memory loss. I am sad to see you go even though I can not remember much of our past as friends and guild mates. I know you have told me that we have known each other for some time and I am sure that I respected and admired you as I do even now. I can see how it has been hard for you to sit by and listen to the doubts your friends and even family have had about the woman you love, and I do not hold your actions against you. Indeed I would have no doubt done the same thing. I do hope that our friendship will not suffer for this, as I have no charge to hold against you or Ceinwyn. I am told by most that she and I were friends and therefore I have a difficult time believing she would do this to me without good intention. Please do not be a stranger, and let me know where you are staying so that I might seek your council.
Your friend always,
Brianha
Rolling up the parchment and tying it, she gave it to the bird and hoped that it would reach its destination. She picked up the bird gently in her hands and held it to the air to fly away. |
