Penny sat gazing upon the empty parchment. James had come to her, and told her of his wishes. He wanted her to be with him, in a possible new life of no wars or battles. One that he felt they could not have in Sanctus. She had grown to care for many of those that remained. Though most of her good friends had gone their own ways, there were still many that held a place in her heart. Mallory...a woman she both adored and admired greatly. She had proven to be one of the best friends that Penny ever had. She hoped the distance, whatever it may be, would not ruin the friendship that had grown over the year or two. She would need to write to her as well. Finally, with a heavy heart but a joy of the belief of no wars and worries. She patted her belly in hopes this new life would be what is best for their child.

Dear Lord Talon Skyfire,

I am writing to you as I have nay seen you in person as of lately. As the wife of James, I feel that my duty and my position is to be with him. So I write to you to inform you that I shall be leaving Sanctus. I do hope this does not ruin any friendships, for I hold Sanctus and most of its people in my heart. I am leaving as I feel it is my place to be with my husband, as I am sure you understand. I hope that I will still be welcomed within the city limits as a guest, and do hope you know that I shall always be there to help as much as I can. I know not where this adventure of James will take us, but I know that you will not be far in our thoughts. Perhaps once our child is born, we could visit and show him or her the city we had called home for so long. I also wish to let you know that I had heard from Prince Zarlox. He had been away hunting down his beloved Sadira. She had not passed as we had thought. He had found her and knows that she is alive. He did nay tell me of where it was, but I feel he is trying to bring her back. So hopefully he will return with her, and if not may the virtues guide you all in bringing her back safely. Til our paths cross may the virtues shine upon you and yours.

Sincerely,
Pennalopee M'real

Dearest Mallory,

My beloved has informed me of his wish for me to join him. He has grown wearier of the battles and feels there is a safer place outside of Sanctus. He is hoping that we can find this place and build our family from there. I wanted to write you to let you know that I have treasured your friendship over the course of time. I do hope this distance does not spoil what friendship was formed. You do still have my hawks roost and I do hope you will contact me and keep in touch. I am still and will anxiously await for that invitation to your wedding. He seems to be a fine man, and you my dearest friend, deserve only the best. I hope to be back for visits and perhaps once we settle somewhere, you and Smitty can come for a dinner. Til then my friend, may you continue to lead the people of Sanctus with the wit and wisdom that you have done so far. Please be cautious and may the virtues forever shine favorably upon you.

Your friend,
Penny

Penny gazed upon the letters one last time before sending them off. She then returned to her packing, every now and then rubbing her belly. Her visits to Moonglow seem to have made the child grow quicker...or perhaps it was her imagination. Whatever the cause or reason, she was anxious in returning to James side as soon as possible. How could a heart be so heavy, yet be filled with joy? Something she will experience over the course of parenthood, she's sure of it.

*dips his quill and ponders a moment*

I understand. Children change everything for us all. Though Im sad to see you leave, I understand your reasons. I'd like to thank you for your long years of service to Sanctus. It would not be where it is today without you.

Sanctus will persevere, as it always has. We all need a break from time to time. War is what we know, and it grinds on us all. The threat from Umbra grows by the day, lead by the Ebon Skulls and their associates. We remain the vanguard of the forces of light, keeping them hemmed up across the white gate.

Know that you and James will always have a home here should you find life on the outside to not be what you expected.

Eternally your friend,

King Talon Skyfire
*presses the royal seal into the wax*

After reading the letter Mallory sighed deeply. Too many friends she had lost in her young life. She laid her head in her hands and the tears began to flow freely. She missed her friends from Vesper, Claudette and Brianha always talking and laughing. She missed Max and his odd sense of humor. She missed Vaen, Leshok, Mave and the others from the Legion. They had all been brothers to her. She missed her beloved Smiticles, who always could bring a smile to her face, so devoted to his friends. She sighed and brushed away the tears from her face. She was a mayor of Sanctus. She wouldn't have others see her in this way. She pulled out a piece of parchment and began writing...

My dear friend and sister in Virtue,
Our friendship is one that has truly changed my life. I wish you and your family all of the best. I pray that the Virtues will guide and protect you, my friend and my sister. You must come and visit and sit in the garden and drink tea as we continue our talks about men and... well men. I still have not found the handbook that explains them, but I will continue my search. I am sure they often feel the same about us. Do not be a stranger, for you are always welcome here. If you do not visit I will have no choice but to send a search party after you and have them bring you back. I will surely miss having you right across the road, but we must all do what we feel is best in our hearts.

In friendship and Virtue,
Mallory Rowdep

Mallory looked over the letter as the ink dried and she sighed again softly. She read the final line over and over and wondered if she was one to give that advice. Many times she had followed her heart and it had led her only to pain. She closed the note and sealed it with a bit of wax and sent it to her friend.
