*A courier in black and gold arrives at the estate of Lord Porthos, bearing a message*

Lord Regent,

I send this missive to congratulate you on your election as the new Regent.

I would also like to thank you for your willingness to have your people participate in the funeral of my brother, Lord Spawn.

With a new leader, there is opportunity for change and mending of rifts.

Relations between our Kingdom and the Regency under Lady Lia have been abysmal at best.

Our governments were once the staunchest of allies. While we do not seek alliance or aid, Sanctus once again extends her hand in friendship to the Regency and her people.

May the light illume and the Virtues guide your reign as Regent.

Regards,

Lord Talon Skyfire
King of Sanctus

*Sealed with the Golden Wyrm of Sanctus*

It was early eve when there was a knock on the door. Porthos recognized the uniform and tipped the lad as he handed him the letter with the golden wyrm seal. He closed the door and began to read. Just as he finished there was another knock at the door, it was Mia to take him out to dine. Porthos set the letter down and forgot it for a day, as she had that effect on him. When he saw it some time later, he immediately penned a response………

Milord Talon,

Thank you for your congratulatory missive. Lady Lia was a great Regent and if I can fill just half her shoes I will have accomplished something. She ruled with remarkable wisdom and great patience. It was an honor to serve her and a greater honor to follow in her footsteps.

The passing of your brother was tragic. He was a good man and will be missed by many. It is not my willingness to have people participate, but my encouragement to pay final homage to a man who has shown respect to so many through the years. I have always felt that only through mutual respect can the boundaries of communication and tolerance remain open. I assure you your brother’s funeral will be hallowed ground and no feelings on animosity will be displayed. Please send word as to when services will take place that we may make preparations to attend.

A point I will agree on is your opinion that relations between the Regency and Sanctus have been abysmal at best, although I will point out this was also under your rule as well as the Regents. Lia had made it a point to leave open several options to you and your people and the ball of relations has been in your court for many seasons. Looking back over them, we welcome the hand of Sanctus, but do forgive us for watching what it does first. I hope one day to see you walk through the door we have left open that we may all exist on friendly terms and benefit from the fruits of that labor.

May respect shape your path, tolerance keep it smooth, the Light to lead you and the Virtues be your beacon.

Sincerely,
Porthos von Richthofen
Lord Regent
Steel Scorpions of Fire

Porthos sealed the letter with dark green wax and pressed his rings image of a scorpion with tail around a skull, deep into the ooze to leave his mark. He then went upstairs to the aviary and brought out Stitch, a two-year-old falcon with a very keen sense of direction. He whispered to the bird, removed the hood, and threw his leather-clad arm skyward. Immediately the bird’s massive wingspan unfolded and he headed to the south of Malas.
