Penny sat gazing at the fire that crackled in front of her. Her body ached from the battle that happened earlier that eve. Twice she was rendered unconscious by blows. The wound up on her arm throbbed and felt as if it were on fire. Moonglow and Umbra were the ones they were fighting. It amazed her how fast loyalities switched, for did not Sanctus help Moonglow in achieving their rights to rule the island? Yet, they turn around only to attack one of Sanctus noble families, the Mreals. She shook her head as her gaze wandered down to her robe that was caked with soot with burnt threads along the hemline of her sleeves as well as that of the bottem one. Before she could even truly rest after that battle, did two orcs invade her home and set fire to the garden. She was speaking with Malic when she smelt fire coming from the roof. She ran as fast as she could, only to see two orcs grining and setting the garden ablaze. She quickly got some water and started to put the fires out. It was relentless effort as it seem to never end. Once one fire was doused another arose. Finally they stopped as Malic chased the orcs out of the house. She was so filled with adrenaline that she did not feel the light burn upon her arm. Then again it was the same arm that had been wounded previously. As she sat gazing into that fire, her eyes threatned to close with exhausation, but yet she forced them open. James was in bed asleep, she had given him a bit of something for pain that would also work as a sedative. Tis a good thing, or he would have been fighting the orcs. She rested her weary head within the palms of her hands.
Shall there ever be any rest for the family?
She spoke softly to herself. All had gone to bed, she even went up the stairs to check on Anya and Zanto to ensure they were safe in their beds. Once satisfied that all was well, she ventured back down to the sitting area, where she laid upon the couch. She was not much of a fighter, but this eve she would guard her most precious treasure. Though sleep continued to battle her, she won each time..as her thoughts drifted to better times as the fire that danced within its place slowly took form of the images that played within her mind. _________________ "Nature gave man two ears but only one tongue.
