Sonya tossed on the bed, her red tousled hair whipped about her pillow.

"Am I dreaming?" her fevered mind shouted. "Or is this a bad memory?"

Over three years ago she'd had a vision. She saw the mounted Stormguards ride into battle and she saw them all die. She saw the foe build a pyre and burn them. As the fire roared furiously and hot...

She leaped into the flames.

Only, when her vision became reality, when she saw them fight and die, and then saw the hot burning fire comsume them...

She screamed and fled.

Many times since she saw it all again though she'd been nightmare free for almost a year.

This time it was worse than ever. Her body drenched in sweat, she screamed aloud and shot out of the bed, only to collapse and curl up on the floor.

Her naked body shivered, but not from any mortal chill.

Suddenly she knew others were in the room and they gathered around her. Ghostly figures in battle dented armor with ghastly deadly wounds. She stifled more screams and looked upon their grim visages.

She knew each one: King Finian of Stormhaven, DeMarcus the mage, Oliver the harper, young Owen with the golden hair, and the rest.

They reached out to her and her mind clamored with their voices, calling her to them. "We've waited for you long enough."

Cold terror stabbed her heart. "No! I want to live!"

But she knew her time had come. The awful dread slowly gave way to fascinated wonder. She arose and firmly looked the dreadful spirits in the eyes, one by one, giving each a nod.

She doused her bed with oil and climbed into it. She settled in the midst of it, curling her long legs under her as she leaned on one arm. She pulled the soaking sheets about her body.

With a final, short prayer, Sonya lifted her face to heaven and called down a column of fire.
