Title: Proto-Human Fossil

Author: Lord Josiah Havel

The discovery of the protohuman fossil is an extraordinary leap in understanding the place of humanity in Sosaria.

Most research into this topic has been done through examination of remnant groups such as Trogs and evolutionary offshoots of intelligent like.

It is otherwise unknown as to if the elves, orcs, gargoyles, or other races share a common anscestor with Humanity, or if the sentient races of Sosaria are somehow independant of one another from an ancient history standpoint.

Certainly the elven histories suggest their own 'highborn' view of themselves. The gargoyle histories are convoluded geneologies, that make even the most learned of men cross their eyes. The Orcs have long held the view that they are sprung from the blood of some sort of blood based diety they call "BludGod" but rather it is simply a tribal, animistic quasi-religion with no understandable origin theory.

I would like to think that Humanity would take a less religious or spiritual direction and instead base itself on facts. As currently published, the oldest fossil known to exist is that of the creature called "Zog".

Of which we know very little, I have had at great length the opportunity to examine the Zog fossil, and have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to know what sort of being that the fossil came from, and the identity of Zog will forever be unknowable. Since the skull portion of the Fossil has been lost to time, there is not enough data to be had.

Given the historical, and legendary status of Zog and his infamous betrayal of Sosaria to the Xorinite, it is no wonder that the various races of Sosaria are hesitant to claim the status of 'the oldest race' because of the connection to the fossil and what that would mean for them historically.

However, in excavating the ancient temple site near Destard, I have recently uncovered an older, and much more ancient site within the main site.

This secondary site, I have kept secret, but could date to somewhere between 800,000 to 1.2 million years ago. Making this discovery 100,000 to 400,000 years PRIOR to the death and betrayal of the Zog creature.

Politically this discovery could also be difficult, because indeed, the fossil is decidedly human.

This would mean that this single fossil, in the strata of fossilized vegitation of plantlife known to have died out in the Zog aremageddon, is the oldest fossil of a sentient race in existance.

Moreover, that the fossil itself is NOT that of a Trog, or other sub/pre-human ancestor, but an actual human being!
