Title: Concerning Bobbits

Author: Amicus

This is a tome of the knowledge I have gained of the gentle race of Bobbits, and how I plan to discover more.

Bobbits were an odd sort of creature that once inhabited Sosaria. They are short, reaching only about three feet high, and they have thick fur on their feet. They would seem only a child to a human. They enjoy the simple things in life; food, drink, and parties, but they love nothing more than a nice long puff from a pipe full of the finest weed. They do not like adventures and will have nothing to do with anything that takes them far from their homes, with a few exceptions. Ancient texts describe the Bobbits as follows,

"A small and gentle race, the Sosarian Bobbits are believed to have come to our Realm from a distant place. They are said to favour mountainside meadows and the serenity of forest clearings. Their diminutive height being even less than that of a dwarf, they shun any task that involves hard, physical labour, preferring instead the pursuits of study and contemplation. Bobbits are naturally weak yet possess a serenity indicative of profound wisdom."

Bobbits are also very agile and light on their feet, and can move quietly in the forests almost as good as any elf that ever lived in Sosaria. This leads the few Bobbits that crave adventure to become burglars. The first written records of Bobbits appeared around the time of Mondain's defeat. It is unknown what happened to the gentle bobbin, but it is believed, among the great scholars of ancient texts, that they slowly left the known lands of Sosaria with the elves, or hide with the dwarves deep under the mountains, shortly after the defeat of the evil wizard Mondain. As such there are very few texts that include these extraordinary creatures.

Why did the gentle Bobbits leave our great lands? Was it the constant influx of evil into Sosaria? Was it the decline of the virtues? Was it some malice that we humans directed towards them? These are questions that even the wisest may never find an answer to. It is sad that no better documentation of these creatures was kept, for we know not whether they followed the elves and migrated from this land as is their custom, or whether they dug in deep with the dwarves, hiding even now in unknown mines that run the length of Britannia.

I have spent much of my life searching for an answer to these questions, but to no avail. Yet I have found a new hope in my search. I recently met two warriors from a land unknown to us, which they call "The Land of Stone". Legends from their lands tell of creatures that sound remarkably like Bobbits. The question now remains; is this where they originated from, or is this the land to which they traveled, and if so, how did such simple creatures learn to travel to worlds that our greatest mages cannot find. The answer is hidden, but I still search for it.
