Title: Gargish Culture

Author: Wren Hapswill

Introduction:

Once the enemies of humans, gargoyles were considered deamons by those they first met. Nothing could be farther from the truth, as the gargoyles were the keepers of the Codex of Ultimate wisdom. During the time historians consider the age of enlightenment, the Avatar in his quest for the Codex caused the Isle of the Avatar to arise from the ocean depths. This act was foretold by a gargish seer as the beginning of the end for the gargish race. The second act was the rescue of Lord British from the Shadowlords from the depths. The resulting earthquakes were the next omen.

The third omen foretold the "False Prophet" returning to the depths with a band of warriors to destroy that which is gargoyle. The only way to avert the doom foretold was by sacrificing the "False Prophet". However, the only thing considered of value was the Codex itself, so the Avatar returned it to the void, there to be veiwed by all those in need, human and gargoyle alike.

The Gargish Culture was defined and bound by a series of books, written and passed down through the generations. Herein lies what knowledge has been garnered from these texts over the years, by humans. These texts are by no means complete, nor are they positivly acurate. Though are put forth here as a reference to the Gargish Culture, or what remains of it.

Book of Circles:

All begins from the three Principles: Control, Passion, and Dilegence. From Control springs Direction. From Passion springs Feeling. From Dilegence springs Persistance. But these three Virtues are no more important than the other five: Control combines with Passion to give Balance. Passion combines with Dilegence to achieve Achievement. And Dilegence joins with Control to form Precision. The absence of Control Passion and Diligence is Chaos. The absence of the Principles points to the seventh Virtue, Order. The three Principles unify to become Singularity. This is the eighth Virtue, yet it is also the first.

Because within Singularity can be found all the Principles and thus all the Virtues. A circle has no end. It continues forever with all parts equally important to the success of the whole. Our society is the same. It continues forever, with all members (and virtues) an equal part of the unified whole. Book of Rituals:

Heed well as I, Naxitilor, write of how I brought the Codex to our land and thereby ushered in the time of Prosperity : With the help of the Lens maker, I crafted the Vortex Lens, where I could see the Codex where it originally rested. I created the Vortex Cube to focus the power of the Moonstones and draw the Vortex down to the world. Then I used the lens to form an image of the Codex upon the cube. The Vortex touched our plane, the Image became solid, and the Codex was brought down to be used properly by our race !

Book of Prophecy :

An anceint prophecy tells of the final days. Three omens shall precede the end. Thrice shall a being of great evil come into our land, and by this shall it be known that the end is nigh. The evil one is of another race, and those of that race consider him to be a great prophet. Yet tis is a false prophet, for he does not follow the Principles of Control, Passion, and Diligence.

One day the false prophet shall come and desecrate our most holy shrine, and he shall steal our most holy artifact, the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom. This shall be the first sign of the end.

Then the false prophet shall desend deep into the bowels of the earth. And there shall he cause the Underworld to collapse. Thus causeing great earthquakes to tear our world asunder, and there will follow a time of plague and famine. This shall be the second sign of the end.

One last time shall the false prophet come. and with him he sahll brings a band of warriors to destroy all that is left of the Gargish race.

There is only one way that this prophecy may be thwarted : The Sacrifice of the false prophet.

Book of Prosperity :

Long ago the great Seer Naxitilor summoned the Codex into the world. Thus began the great time of Prosperity. The Codex was placed within the Temple of Sigularity, there to be viewed by those requiring it's knowledge. The Seers of the land, led by Naxitilar protected the Codex with a forcefield. Only those on sacred quests for Wisdom may be allowed to reach and read the Codex. Within the Codex is written the one true and right answer to any problem. One has but to reach the Codex, then read and correctly interupt the answer properly.

With perfect Wisdom and infallible knowledge, all that remains is to have the Control, Passion, and Diligence required to follow the proper course. These are the underpinnings of our society, and so our race is able to use the Codex wisely and well.

This is why the Codex exsists : To lead the Gargish race to Ultimate Prosperity.

Book of Family :

When a child hatches from an egg, it comes into the world without wings. But even from then one can tell whether a child shall have wings or be a wingless-one. The Wingless-ones can not speak and lack the intelligence of the winged ones. Those without wings must be guilded. The winged ones are but few, yet they are entrusted with the intelligence and wisdom of our race.

The winged ones must be the guides for the Wingless. Both winged and wingless spring forth from the same eggs, and both belong to the same family. Both remain apart of the single whole, to best maintain the struggle of our survival in our world.

Book of Adminstration:

For countless ages the winged have led the wingless-ones, for this right and proper. But we must remember that they are no less valuble than we. A body with no head cannot move, yet niether may a head without a body. All must funtion in Unity if anything is to be achieved. So guide the Wingless well, and keep them from paths of error. But guide them also with respect.
