Title: The Basics of Magery

Author: Krythan

Magery can be defined as the study of and controlled use of Magics in Britannia. One who posses the skill to control these magics is called a mage, a wizard, or if controlling black magics, a necromancer. Now if ye are reading this book I am assuming ye want to learn a little about magery, so I'll explain what I have learned from experience.

The first thing any mage needs is his or her own spellbook. The spell words can be extremely difficult to memorize, and to this day, no one has been able to do so. The second thing a mage needs is regeants. Without these, casting spells would be impossible.

Reagents are the components that bring a spell to life. There are eight of these reagents: Black Pearl, Bloodmoss, Mandrake Root, Garlic, Ginseng, Nightshade, Spider's Silk, and Sulfurous Ash. Every spell uses at least one different kinds of these reagents.

Reagents can be bought at a Mage shop, Herb shop, or Alchemist shop.

Ok, so now you have your spell book, and your reagents...what's left...? Oh, yes... spells! Unless you buy a full spellbook from another player, the one you have is probably empty. So that means you'll have to buy some spell scrolls. But don't use them! Place them in your spellbook and they'll stay there so you can access that spell anytime you wish.

Alright, you have your book, reagents, and spells...now you're ready to put that magery skill to use. What's that? You don't have any magery skill? Ahem, well I suggest that you find a mage, preferably a Mage Guildmaster, which can be found at almost any Magic Shop, and ask him to train you in magery.

I'm sure he will be willing to do so...at a price. Most can train you from 25-30 magery, at 1 gold per tenth. In other words, for every point it cost 10 gold.

Alright! Finally the moment of truth. Open your book and find spell ye want to cast, and read the words aloud.

Don't forget flail your arms wildly about as you chant the spell words. If it is a spell that you can cast on someone or something else, choose a target and use the spell on them. Make sure they you don't commit a crime in doing so! Once you find your target and focus the spell on them, you'll either cast the spell, or you'll fail and have a cloud of smoke in your face.

If this happens, try again if you wish, but don't waste all of your reagents on a spell you have no chance of casting. Here's a chart pf what circle you can cast at different levels of magery skill.

1-15 = 1st circle

15-25 = 2nd circle

25-35 = 3rd circle

35-45 = 4th circle

45-60 = 5th circle

60-75 = 6th circle

75-85 = 7th circle

85-100 = 8th circle

One more thing on magery...it isn't cheap! Unless you have a well paying job, you'll often find yourself scraping together money to buy reagents. Learn to conserve all the reagents you can, as you never know when you'll find yourself in danger.

I wish ye all good luck in your magic endeavors.
